Authors long notes:

If I was naming chapters I'd call this 'Calm before the Storm' but I'm not so forget it 😉

Ant and Dec dance to 'Somewhere only we know' which to me has always been about someone realising that the love they neglected and let die is actually the only thing they've ever needed.

Ive pulled up an instrumental version above which will work better to read to.

I really hope I've managed to make this chapter as emotional as I'd planned. Enjoy 💜

Dec's POV

I was excited for today. Even though the November weather was cold and it looked like it might snow, I was excited. Today was Ant's birthday and I was gonna make it special for him.

Ant hadn't mentioned it, I doubted he really cared but I did so we were gonna celebrate. We'd woken up that morning in separate rooms, per Dads orders.

That wouldn't stop us though.

So at 7am, when I heard Mam and Dad pull out of the drive way to go and stay at my Aunts for the weekend, Ant sleepily walked into my room and climbed under the covers with me. He move my smaller body to be the little spoon against his, whilst mumbling a tired, "ummm that's better"

I snuggled into him happily and we both allowed ourselves to drift back off into a peaceful sleep.

We'd had a lazy morning, mostly cuddling. Ant cooked us a big breakfast, even though it was already 2 o'clock by the time we actually got down stairs and he laughed when I had eaten it all before he'd even started his second sausage. "You're too adorable. How do you eat so fast?"

"When you have 6 brothers and sisters it's eat or be eaten." I said through a mouthful of toast, he laughed again and sat back in his seat.

"What are they like?"

"My siblings? Well uh in age order... there's Patrica who was 14 when I was born then there's Eammon, Dermott, Moyra, Martin and Camalia. It's still 5 years between Cam and I, so I'm really the baby of the family."

"Wow your family sounds bigger when you say it like that. What are they like?"

"I had different relationships with all of them growing up... they still find me annoying in different ways. Pat was like a second Mam to me, she'd always baby-sit. Earmonn took me to my first football match and he loves a good joke. Dermott works as a priest so I only see him on school holidays but he's definitely the peace keeper of the 7 of us.... With Moyra and Cam I was the stereotypical younger brother, hanging around, always annoying them when they had friends over and generally being a pain. They are very protective of me though." I looked up at him and suddenly got curious. "What about your sister? Sarha?"

Ant smiled, looking lost in thought for a moment. "Sarah's a cheeky monkey that's for sure. She was born when I was nine so she's just turned 8 ... she's got long blonde hair and my Mams eyes. I'd do anything for her."

"I know you would. You're like that with people you love. You protect them." He blushed and looked down at his food. His smile faded though as he spoke.

"I couldn't always protect her... I tried but sometime's your hands are tied and there's nothing you can do, you know?" The question was odd but I understood what he'd been through.

"Yeah, of course... you can't protect everyone Anth." His eyes looked up to meet mine, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"We should clear this up... footie starts in 15."
