"Bei. You're awake!"
Her dad immediately hugged her kaya pati sina tita at kuya Loel, nakisali na rin.
"Are you okay? Do you feel something? Nagugutom ka na ba? Do you want to eat? Anong gusto mong kainin?"
"Mom, I'm fine, okay? Ilang oras lang akong tulog." she said as she tried to get away from her family's hug.
"We are just happy to see you after your surgery." tito Elmer told her tsaka marahang ginulo ang buhok niya.
"Wait." she said then finally she was able to isolate her self from her family's group hug.
Tinitigan niya ako ng maigi kaya tinitigan ko rin siya ng masinsinan kahit hanggang ngayon, nilulunod pa rin ako ng mga tingin niyang nakakatunaw ng kaluluwa.
"Hi, Bea." ako na ang unang nagsalita dahil mukhang walang balak yatang magsalita ni Bea.
The room then became silent. Hindi yata namin namalayang lumabas ang buong pamilya niya at ako at siya na lang ang natira sa kwarto. Habang nagtititigan.
Paano ko ba kinakayang titigan si Bea ng mata sa mata ng gantong katagal? Paki-explain nga sa akin kung bakit ba kasi nakakamatay ang tingin ng isang Bea de Leon?
"You're late." finally, she have spoken already.
Pero napakunot naman ako ng noo sa sinabi niya.
"Ha? Anong late?" nagtataka kong tanong sa kanya.
"I told you that you have to be here a day before my surgery starts right? But you came back just minutes bago ako operahan. So obviously, that explains the meaning of the phrase 'you're late'."
Napa-irap naman ako inside of me. Just when I thought she'll gonna treat me better than before I left for the Philippines, I was wrong pala. Kasi hanggang ngayon, masungit pa rin ang señorita ng mga de Leon.
"Aish. Napaka-sungit mo pa rin. Why don't you just thank me na umabot ako sa surgery mo?"
"Then why don't you just go out of this room dahil fired ka na?"
"Wha--" napa-awang na lang ako ng bibig dahil napaka-straight forward pa rin ng babaeng to.
"What?" she asked innocently.
"Are you really serious, Bea de Leon?" I unbelievably asked her.
"Aren't you believing what I've said Jhoana Maraguinot?" sagot niya na hindi nagpapatinag.
"Aba punyeta."
"Are you saying something, Jhoana?" she examined my face.
"H-hindi.... You can't fire me! Hindi ikaw ang nag-hire sa akin!" sabi ko na may halo pang pag-padyak sa sahig.
She just looked at me intently.
"Pfffft! Haha! I was just joking, Jhoana. Hahahaha!"
Bungisngis niyang tawa sa harapan ko. Aba punyeta nga talaga! Nakuha niya pang mag-biro kahit na naiinis na ako sa pagsusungit niya sa akin kanina?!
"Hey, I was just joking that time. It was a threat actually. But I won't do it. My family will kill me if I'll really do it." she said then smiled.
Tae. She smiled. She laughed a while ago and then she followed it with a smile!
Imbis na magalit.... "Wow. You're laughing and smiling..." I said with amazement in my eyes.
And when she realized what she just did, her serious face came back.
"Ahmm. Ahemm." she cleared her throat. "I'm hungry. Can I eat now?" she asked seriously.
"Ow.. O-okay..." I just nodded which she also responded with a nod.
