"Heath, I found something in your room. It was a letter addressed to you from your father." We walked down the hall to the rec room.
"You read the letter?" He paused. It was clear he was angry.
"I didn't know what it was." I pulled it out of my pants pocket, along with the watch. "I know Lilith said that we didn't find anything, but I didn't tell her about this. It seemed...personal."
The look on Heath's face softened. He slowly took the letter and the watch. "I never got to send a letter back to my dad after that."
How strange it is. It wasn't until I lost most of my emotions that I started noticing the depth of others.
"That must be hard for you." I'm sure that wasn't the right thing to say, but I didn't know what exactly you're supposed to say to someone. I may have not talked to my brother or parents for almost three years, but something in my mind told me that what Heath was going through was different.
"You could say that." He whispered, rereading his letter. "Hold this for a second, please." He handed me the letter, and then put the watch on. He stayed quiet, looking at it.
"What was it like?" I asked as I handed him the letter back.
"Hmm?"
"The Facility? That old hallway looked nothing like the halls here. Bright, endless...unnerving.""It only became like that when Xander took over. He had other things in mind for us Prodigials. I suppose it is because he had no powers of his own. Lazarus would say I am wrong, but Xander had no mercy for us once he was in charge. It is only because Lazarus is still alive that Xander hasn't killed us, or worse."
"Lazarus seems like a charming lad, but I have no idea what you're talking about. Prodigials, Lazarus, I don't know anything about all that."
"It's a long story." Heath turned around.
"Oh no you don't." I turned him back around. "You can't just say 'it's a long story' and then leave! Why do people always do that? We have time for your 'long story'. If it's going to help us progress with this plan, then you better tell your story."
"Alright, calm down." He put his hands up, the gold watch glinting in the light. "But not here. We need to go somewhere where guards aren't lurking."
You really couldn't have one spot to yourself in The Facility.
"Come on." I groaned and turned around.
We walked up to the roof. Heath looked like he thought I was up to something, as he kept his distance from me.
"I'm not going to push you off." I said, walking to the edge and sitting down. He slowly sat next to me.
"Cheers." He looked over the edge, and then looked back up as if he regretted it. "That hallway that you and Lilith were in is where Lilith and my group, and others used to be."
"Used to be?"
"Yes. We lived there before Xander came into power. There were more of us, but they left."
"Why did they leave?"
"When we came to The Facility, we came willingly. It was meant to be a place where we could work on our powers and meet others like us. Originally, it was just my girlfriend Marina, Klara, Elijah, Isaac, Erica, Felice, Rem, Stephan, and me. Lilith and Nathaniel were here too, but they didn't leave here like we did.""Those are the people in your group?"
"Yes. Well, not Elijah, Felice, and Rem."
"Where are they?"
