I found myself back in the training room. Dr. Helena told me that since I wasn't such a good physical fighter, maybe using a weapon would help me. She rolled out this arsenal of weapons, ranging from guns to daggers. They really had everything. I remember seeing one of those maces from medieval times. I didn't really like guns, so I skipped over those. Then I saw it.
A long sword, like those from those old bad samurai movies. I ran my hand over it, the smooth steel under my hand was cold with a few ridges. I picked it up. It was quite heavy, but if I held it just the right way it felt perfect. Something drew me to that sword, but I don't know what it was. I felt like Harry Potter in Ollivanders.
Dr. Helena raised an eyebrow at my choice. "That's a big sword." She said. "You sure you can handle it?"
I nodded, taking it over to the training dummy.
"Alright, let me teach you a few moves." She sighed, picking up a sword just like mine.
I had gotten back to my room after training. Before I walked in, the door opened and a man walked out. He wasn't dressed like the staff, no plan black shirt and pants. He was wearing a button up and black pants, nothing like the hospital-esque outfits that the staff wore. He had jet black hair, a few gray hairs where his forehead met his hair. He had deep brown eyes and light skin which contrasted heavily with his dark outfit. He was holding a folder, and all I could make out was an L and a V.
"Who are you?" I asked cautiously.
"I just wanted to check on her." He looked back into the room, holding his folder close to him. He tapped a cane on the floor. It was up to his hip, wooden and black with three swirls going up. At the top where his hand was, a dragon with a red ruby for an eye. He had two rings on his ring finger, and it wasn't hard to tell that one was a wedding ring.
"Lilith is back?" I ran to the door, looking inside. There was a lump under the covers on the bed, clearly moving. "Thank god!"
I turned around to say something to the man but he was gone. There was no time to think about who he was, I just had to see if she was OK.
"Lilith, my god. We were all so scared, we thought something horrible had happened."
"Something horrible did happen, I was with Xander." She said back. She kept her face covered, not looking at me. I wanted to do something, hold her hand or hold her, but I didn't. I didn't know what Xander had done to her, I didn't know if she even wanted me to do anything.
"Please tell me what he did to you, Lilith." I begged, sitting on the bed beside her.
"The same thing he did to you." She whispered.
"He...gave you powers? Like...fire ones?" I asked, lightly moving my hand to her shoulder. She rolled over, and I could see her face. There was no physical damage as far as I could see. Just her pale skin and small brown eyes. And then I saw her arms.
White lines zigzagged down her arms, like long lightning strikes. I couldn't tell how far they went up since her arms were mostly covered by the uniform. The same quote ran through my mind. "The results of this experiment will shock you." Caesar had said. The sinking feeling in my stomach increased. I had wondered what Caesar had meant by that. And suddenly I understood exactly what he was trying to say.
"Jesus, Lilith." I didn't know what to say. Caesar's pun felt more sinister once I put two and two together. Lilith covered her arms up.
"I want to get out of here." She demanded. Lilith looked so unlike herself. I had never seen her angry or even mad once since I had gotten to The Facility. "We have to get this plan together."
I nodded, moving my hand from her arm. "We're working on it. Heath and Marina took over."
"Good." Lilith sat up. She moved her messy black hair from her face, wiping her eyes. "When we get out of here, are we still going to be friends?"
"Of course! Why would you think that we wouldn't?" I was confused.
"Well, you said you wanted to forget everything about this place. So I assumed you'd want to forget about the people in it." She admitted, looking at me. Her eyes, dark brown with a small spot of light, met mine.
"I'd never want to forget about you." I assured her. I hugged her, and she hugged back. We just stayed like that for a few moments. Finally, we let go. She smiled at me, and I found myself smiling back.
Evan said he didn't think The Facility was the best place for making relationships. Maybe he was right. But I could make a few exceptions.
