After a day of driving, we had made it to Ivingly. I recognized the Erron Park, dedicated to the founder of Ivingly. And right next to it, Elbridge. I got chills just from looking at it, and I could see Damion staring at it through his window.
"Where am I going?" Lazarus asked. Lilith opened her eyes. She had been asleep for a few hours. I still hadn't got any sleep. I didn't like sleeping in cars. I was scared something would happen, and I would wake in a hospital or something.
We drove past neighborhoods until we reached Damion's. Lazarus drove up to his house.
"Thanks for the ride." Damion shut the door, not bothering to look behind him. Lilith nodded at Lazarus, and then walked up to the house with Damion. They knocked on the door, and we drove away before anything else happened.
We made it to my house. Looking up at it, I got an odd feeling in my stomach. I had only been gone for a few weeks, but for some reason I didn't recognize the house. I thought I would be overjoyed seeing it again, but I was wrong.
I sat in the car for a few more minutes.
"Are you going to go inside?" Lazarus asked, but he wasn't rushing me.
"I am. I just need a moment." I looked at the bag in the backseat. Damion and Lilith had taken their files already. I grabbed it and pulled it into my seat.
"Take as long as you need." Lazarus took his hands on the wheel and sat back in his seat. He took the fidget spinner out of the cup holder and started spinning it. "Do you think you're not going to be able to get your life back to normal?"
I nodded.
"That's understandable. But I'm sure you can do it."
"What are you going to do about Xander? I heard The Facility was supposed to be a place where Prodigials can come together and learn how to use their powers. But he turned it into something terrible. Are you going to fix that?"
Lazarus spun the fidget spinner. "I am aware that he is not running it the way it was not supposed to be run. I'm working on something in America. An Academy. It's going to be run right."
"Can you do something for me?"
Lazarus put the fidget spinner down and made eye contact with me. "Of course, what do you need?"
"I had a friend in America. His name was Vincent Zales. I don't know if he was just imagining things, but he seemed to think that he was able to move things with his mind. If you can, do you think maybe you could look for him."
Lazarus nodded. "I will find him."
"And what about the people still in The Facility? The imprisoned teens? The ones locked up in Containment?"
"I'm going to do what I can. But it's going to be just for Prodigials and-"
"So you're going to leave the humans in The Facility." I cut him off.
"I can't save everyone."
"You only care about the Prodigials, don't you? You're not even worried about the humans that are trapped there." I opened the door and got out of the car. "Thanks for the ride."
I grabbed the bag and shut the door behind me. And then watched the car drive off.
The last memory I had of my mom was the morning of my death day. She was asleep in bed, most likely preparing herself for a long period of drinking. Her eyes were closed, mouth partly open. Her blonde hair was sprawled on the pillow, the remnants of makeup on her face. I told her I loved her, and then I left for school.
