As Damion dragged me from the door, I reached out for Evan. We were supposed to get out together. We were never meant to be split.
"We can't leave him behind!" I exclaimed, trying to break from Damion's grasp.
"If we go back, we're dead. Come on, we have to find out where the hell we are." Damion said. I looked at Lilith. She didn't seem to be listening to either of us. A dazed look was on her face as she walked beside us.
"Lilith, are you OK" I asked, moving over to her. I already knew that she wasn't, she just watched two people die, but I didn't know what else to say. I was more wondering why it didn't affect me yet.
I've read that people react to death differently. But in that moment, the adrenaline of escaping was overtaking the part of my mind that was thinking "You just witnessed someone die. You need a moment to collect yourself." I didn't have time to think about death.
There was a path leading up to The Facility. Three cars sat in front of it. A bright white car that looked very expensive, a red one that looked even more expensive, and a van that was yellow-green. On the side the van it said "Emergency Ambulance".
"This must be what they bring us here in." I ran my hand across it.
"The hospitals are in on it." Damion said softly.
I don't know where it came from, but a burst of anger ran through. I hit the van, kicking it and punching it.
"Yvonne, please calm down." Damion attempted to pull me from it but his efforts were useless.
"Doesn't it violate some kind of oath? Who the hell thought to team up with the most sadistic people in England?!" I kicked the van with every word. A loud alarm went off. That took me out of my angry haze.
"Let's just follow this trail and hope no one is driving here." Damion suggested. I nodded. Lilith said nothing.
We followed him down the path. Everytime we heard a noise, we hid in the bushes. As we walked down, we heard a car starting up.
"Shit, get down." We ran off to the side, hiding behind a big rock. I peeked over to see the white car driving down the path.
"I wonder who owns that car?" I thought aloud as we got back on the path. We continued walking down until we reached the end of it. The path went onto some kind of hill. . The only place you could go was down the hill or off of it.
"So we just keep following this path?" I didn't really think it was a good idea, but if we jumped off the side of the hill we'd be in a far worse predicament. I slowly walked to the edge of it. Below it was just water. A few sharp rocks dotted the edges where the water met land. So, jumping off did not seem like a very good idea.
"Where else are we going to go?" Damion asked, standing next to me. Lilith stood on the other side of me, staying quiet. The only sounds coming from her were sniffles, and she was quickly wiping tears. It only made them pour down her face faster.
"I have no idea. But what matters is that we stick together." We all turned and walked down the hill. We made sure to keep an eye out for the white car, as getting caught was more feared than the sharp rocks.
We made it all the way down the hill to find ourselves standing in front of a road and some signs. A few feet down, a bus stop. I looked Damion. He seemed to be thinking the same thing as me.
I knelt down and looked into the bag. There was a section for the files, a few guns and my taichi, and a smaller bag. I grabbed it and opened it. We all took a sigh of relief. Dr. Evelyn had given us some money.
"Looks like we're taking the bus."
