Just like with Damion, Lilith, and I, it didn't take too much paperwork to get Evan back into Elbridge. We were standing at my locker. It was the beginning of lunch, and everyone was putting their things away in their lockers. I was getting my lunch out of my locker, and Evan stood beside me. He was incredibly tense. I couldn't blame him.
Students gave us passing glances the entire morning as we walked through the halls. It reminded me of high school movies when the popular kids would walk through the halls. But instead, it was some kids that either were dead or just came out of nowhere.
"I'm starting to think coming back here was a bad idea." He wasn't hiding his nervousness, but it was odd to see him like this. In The Facility, he was a tough, barely any emotion kinda person. The only time I got to see a soft part of him was when Dr. Evelyn gave him his files.
"I thought that too when I came back. A lot of people are treating me differently. The only good thing is that some people actually want to be my friend no, no added benefits like possibly being known as the "person who befriended the new school celebrity" or getting people to think they're caring."
I knew he heard the sarcasm in my voice. "I'm not worried about people wanting to be my friend. All I'm here for is to find out what Rachel is up to."
"Do you think it was a good idea to bring Nathaniel here?"
He sighed. "It's better than leaving him home alone. Who knows what he would do if there wasn't someone constantly watching him?"
"I don't think he's finding it hard to make friends." I pointed to the other side of the hallway. A few lockers down, he was standing there with two girls. They seemed to be really interested in what he was saying. One was playing with her hair, laughing at everything he was saying, and the other was nodding, chewing gum.
"I think he's up to something. I can not believe for a minute that flirting is on his mind right now." Evan shook his head. "I should go over and say something."
"You have more important things to worry about than Nathaniel trying to get a girlfriend. Come on, I'll show you where her room is."
It was lunch, so no one was in the classrooms. Rachel was sitting at her desk. She was one of the only teachers who didn't dress like they were teaching at some university. That day she was wearing a sundress and sandals. From what Evan told me, she didn't dress like one of the most evil people he had ever met at The Facility.
"Are you sure you want to talk to her with me? You could just go to lunch." Evan said for the third time.
"I'm staying by your side. Who knows what she may do?"
I slowly pushed the door open. I won't lie and say I wasn't scared, because I was. How could someone who seemed so nice be someone who killed somebody? And if she killed someone, what was stopping her from killing me?
"Oh, Yvonne and Evan. Did you come to eat lunch with me?" I looked down at our bags, two plain brown paper bags.
"Yes." I sat at one of the desks, and Evan sat at the one next to me.
"So, what did you bring to eat?" She asked, leaning over her desk to look at what we took out of our bags.
"I have a sandwich." I held the tupperware up, inside a plain ham sandwich.
"I have some leftover cajun shrimp." Evan took no time to start eating. He, thankfully, wasn't a loud eater, but he was a fast one.
"Looks good." Rachel let a small appear on her face. It was beginning to be hard to believe that she was as evil as Evan said she was.
