It had been a week since Xander had taken Lilith. I had no idea what he was doing to her, but I had a bad feeling. Dr. Evelyn had come to visit me every day since she had been taken. I tried asking her where Lilith was, but she wouldn't tell me. "I don't know where Xander has taken her. I don't have access to many of his rooms." Heath told me that he believed her, and if he believed her then what she was saying must have been true. For the first time since I had holed myself up in my room, I actually went to the rec room.
I met Heath's girlfriend, Marina. Marina had a lot to say about Xander, and none of it was good. "I don't care if you've been in here for a long time or a short time. You'll hate Xander no matter what." She also had a lot to say about Caesar, but I don't feel comfortable repeating any of it.
"Our friends are locked in the Containment Unit. I want to get them out." She expressed to me the first day I met her. "I'll help, but only if you agree that you add getting them out as part of your plan."
I had no reason not to agree. But I wasn't putting myself in charge of the escape plan anymore. Heath had pointed out a lot of flaws, and it was hard making a plan when I barely knew anything about the layout. So I asked Heath and Marina if they would take over, and they agreed. Xander and Caesar were nowhere to be found, and for once I actually wished that I knew where they were.
"I'm not going to lie to you. They're probably doing something horrible to Lilith." Heath
said, as he looked over the escape plans. Marina glared at him, but I knew he was right.
"I wish Dr. Evelyn knew what was going on." I leaned back in the chair. Damion, who was sitting next to me, scoffed.
"How do we even know we can trust that woman? For all we know, she could be telling Xander about everything we're doing." Damion crossed his arms. He didn't seem to trust anybody, not even me. He didn't talk to me the same way he talked to Lilith.
"She would never do that!" Heath exclaimed. "Don't talk about her as if she's like the
rest of the staff. Dr. Evelyn was a good person when I first got here, and she's still a good person now."
"Damion, please just trust us when we tell you that she's not evil." Marina pleaded.
"I don't trust her, but I won't talk bad about her if it makes you that upset." Damion rolled his eyes, but his voice didn't sound as angry as it did before.
"Thank you." Marina said softly. Heath wasn't so quick to forgive him.
"Watch how you talk about her around me." Heath warned, glaring at him.
The conversation was cut short when Caesar came over to us.
"Where is Lilith?" Heath asked, standing up.
Caesar shrugged. "Why do you think I know? Maybe you know where Lilith is and
you're not telling anybody."
"Wha- what does that even mean?" Heath sputtered, getting angry. Caesar shrugged again. "Just tell us where she is!"
"Oh, I'm sure she'll be back soon." Caesar smiled. "I think the results of this experiment will shock you." He winked, and walked away.
"Well, I think we can all agree that Caesar sucks." Damion said, breaking the silence that Caesar had left behind him.
It wasn't supposed to be a funny statement, but we all laughed. Out of nervousness or just the unexpected comment, I'm not sure. But it had been a while since I laughed at something, so I took the chance.
