Cydo's pov

Eventually, the tears stopped, but I still didn't want to let go. Jack meant too much to me, but I hurt him. Beyond what they know how to fix.

Although maybe they do know, they just don't know because they don't know what I am. Maybe I should've stayed at the mansion instead of coming here.

I nuzzled my face in his shoulder and sighed. I wanted to run from Jack to save him and the others so I didn't hurt them. But at the same time... They're the only family I've ever known. I wouldn't want to break they're hearts...

But what if it wouldn't. What if they only tolerate me because they think I'll hurt them. Jack is right, I haven't hurt everyone. But that might change. I might hurt everyone.

I don't want to tear everyone apart...

"You won't. Not if you can stop yourself." Jack said, interrupting my thoughts. I looked up at him in disbelief, unaware that I'd said that aloud.

"I sai-... I..." I stuttered.

"You didn't realize?" he asked. I shook my head.

"Well you won't hurt anyone. Not if you don't want to. We just need to find out what you are so we can train you to stay in control. Even when you're in your black, ball of... smoke.... stuff." he told me.

I just stuffed my head back in his shoulder.

Jack's pov

All I needed right now was for her to calm down and stop believing that she's going to hurt everyone. This is where she belongs. She shouldn't be running in fear of her own self.

I couldn't help but grip the back of her shirt as I held her. I just didn't want her to leave. Though, she might try, I should be able to keep her here. At least, I hope so.

I lifted my head and looked into her silver eyes. They seemed to gleam just as much under the dark canopy as they do in light. She knew something was on my mind. Her face showed curiosity, and it was adorable.

A twig snapped suddenly and Cydo jumped to her feet. She narrowed her eyes and bared her teeth in the direction of the sound. I quickly grabbed my mask and pulled it back on. There was a loud rustle before someone stumbled out.

"This is why I do my work in a house..." the doctor grumbled.

Cydo calmed down and returned to me as Dr. Smiley got up and brushed himself off. She sat on the opposite side of me that Smiley was on and leaned against me. I watched her for a moment before turning my gaze to Smiley.

"Sorry for the interruption but you need to return to the infirmary. We can't afford anything happening to you while you're weak." Smiley told me.

"Did I not just chase after Cydo? And find her? I'm sure I can hold my own now." I deadpanned.

"Well you still have wounds to be tended to, so Up! Off the ground! And let's go!" Smiley urged us. We both just looked at him and refused to move to poke fun at him.

"What? Come on." he told us. Cydo stretched and laid across my lap. I stifled a chuckle as Smiley huffed in disbelief.

"Would you two get up!" he growled, getting aggravated. Cydo just grumbled. Smiley's happiness dropped.

"Someone help me before I help her..." he growled to himself, "Get up, this is your fault anyw-"

I grabbed his wrist as he reached for Cydo. He should not have even started saying that. He let out a little yelp as I held his wrist too tightly. We slowly stood up and Cydo tried to back away, but I wrapped an arm around her, preventing her from getting away.
