Cydo's pov

A few hours later, I hadn't found anything to help. I sucked at using the book and sucked even more at understanding it. I wasn't helping very much.

My ears flicked in aggravation and my claws scratched the pages as I balled them into fists. The pages moved and words formed in the center of blank pages.

No Match

No match? Match to what?

I was so frustrated with this stupid book. With Jack's stupid injuries. With stupid creatures. But most of all with stupid me.

I just sat, looking at the blank pages, until I felt a presence behind me. I recognized the dizzying headache that came with Splendot

"Having trouble Cydo?" he asked. I just wanted him to go away. He hurts my head. I nodded anyway.

"Here. Let me show you a trick." he said as he sat on the floor next to my chair.

I handed him the book and he flipped it to an unmarked page. He took the notebook and put the filled pages of the notebook in the creature book. Which by the way feels like it was alive at some point.

He closed the book and set it down. The notebook pages disappeared and the book flew open. It flipped through it's pages a moment and Splendot cracked a joke.

"It's loading..."

I shook my head and tried not to give him the satisfaction of my laughter. I knew what he wanted. I was too aggravated to laugh right now. It wasn't the time.

The book finally landed on a blank page and words formed in the center. Words I saw earlier.

No Match

I wasn't any happier with the results. Splendot tilted his head and his cheerful... Face? looked very confused.

"Hm. Scratch the page. Or lick it. I prefer scratch." he suggested. I'd done it on accident earlier, what harm will it do if I tried again?

I placed my hand on the book and extended my claws. I scratched them down the page, but feared I'd tear them. My claws didn't leave a mark, but the page's ink rearranged.

No Match

Once again, I'm useless.

"Hm. You don't seem to be in here. You must be one fascinating creature!" Splendot cheered. I didn't think so.

"I can't help." I muttered, "I can only destroy."

"Hm? I'm sure that's not true. Everyone can do something that isn't destructive. You just have to find that something!" he told me.

"I'm useless. I'm a danger. I'm a threat. I've hurt so many people. I can't care for anything without fear of hurting them. What if Jack dies because of me?" I asked him, tears starting to roll down my cheeks.

"Cydo, gumdrop, Jack won't die."

"How do you know? No one even knows what I am."

"I know Jack. I can read minds like Slendy can. I see how his mind gets around you. He's a tough nut to crack and you sliced through like butter. He wouldn't just leave you behind. He'll fight whatever's ailing him whether he wants to die or not."

"It's not safe. I can't stay here. I don't want to hurt him." I muttered. Splendot placed a hand on my shoulder and the dizzying feeling stopped.

"If you don't want to, you won't. You can stop yourself. You just need to know what you want. And make it happen." he told me.
