Chapter 36

Jack's pov

I woke up in horrible pain. I haven't felt this bad since... Yeah, that.

My thoughts skipped to Cydo and I glanced around the room for her. She was nowhere in sight. I became instantly concerned. I took another glance around and spotted Nurse reading a book over by Dark.

"Where's Cydo?" I asked her simply.

"Hopefully in bed, asleep. She stayed by your side ever since you lost it. She only left for a second to go get that book. She hates it now, by the way." Nurse told me.

"Why?"

"She's not in it."

Those words sucked. They sucked just as much for Cydo as they did for me. She probably feels useless. And I feel like I'm already dead. Smiley will have to make a cure for me, using her. She's not going to be too thrilled about this.

"You should honestly worry about yourself right now." Nurse told me.

"Why? I'm basically already dead. Look at me." I said as I tried lifting my arms. That definitely took more effort than it was supposed to.

"You might look and feel dead, but you're still breathing. Besides Cydo could really use the reassurance. She's pretty upset about not being in there."

"She wants to help. She doesn't want to destroy, but so far, that's all she's done."

"She can learn though. She'll be ok. She's not the only one who's came here with those thoughts. Now look how you've turned out."

"I don't know if Cydo can be changed."

"No one can be changed. But everyone, can be taught." a voice said by the door. I didn't need to strain myself to see, anyone can recognize Slender's voice.

"Nice of you to finally drop by." Nurse teased.

"Splendor wouldn't leave me be." he muttered as he made his way over to me.

"That's what brothers are for." she responded.

"How are you fairing, EJ?" he asked me. Dumbass.

"I can barely move, I hurt like hell, and I'm obviously not getting any better. What the hell do you think?" I asked.

"Hm. Someone's gained an attitude." Nurse chuckled.

"When confined, anyone or anything would react with low sympathy." Slender told. I looked away from him. I knew he was referring to my first time here.

"Let's go back to the matter at hand. Shall we?" Nurse interrupted.

"Yes, indeed." Slender responded before turning to me, "You say your wounds aren't getting better?"

"No." I told him simply. He turned to Nurse.

"Has Cydo looked through the book?"

"Yes she has."

"And?"

"She's apparently not in it. She's tried and even said Splendor assisted her. Nothing."

Slender looked at me for a moment and I could tell the gears were turning in his head. I wondered if he was going to come up with a solution that wouldn't upset anyone. I have a feeling it will involve a test for Cydo.

"Then I will call my father. He can purify your wounds, and possibly know what Cydo is." Slender said before turning and walking out of the room.

"That was weird. No details. No gruesome end for someone." Nurse muttered.

"Suspicious." I deadpanned.

"Very suspicious." Nurse repeated.

We just stayed in silence for a while before Nurse checked my wounds and vitals and whatnot. Then she moved to Dark. He still wasn't in the best condition, but he would be ok enough to leave soon.
