Kate comes to the rescue as we enter the fun fair placed on the giant pier. I haven't seen her since she told me she was 'me' last year. It makes me wonder if Harry is so hot and cold with her as well. But then... this was my own fault.
Not everyone is here yet, but the only person I am missing is Rosie. Of course they go straight for the Ferris Wheel anyway, but not before everyone gets their beer. I politely decline the offer and go for a slush puppy. It turns out to be ice with syrup. All I care about is that it is alcohol free. The last thing I want is getting drunk and then go on the Wheel.
"Are you okay? You don't look like you are," Kate says in my ear.
Fun fact, this fair is also a rave. At least the music is really loud.
"Yeah, just great. Fairs are really my thing. The smell alone sends me into this euphoric state-."
"Stop," she laughs pinching my arm. "Are you even for real?" She questions before she continues. "I just wanted to give you one tip. Don't mention Rosie to Harry. Okay?"
"Oh, okay."
I'm not sure what to tell her, but she soon disappears from my vision. Probably back to Harry who clearly told her that he's angry with me. Great.
I stop walking when we arrive at the Ferris Wheel. The lights almost blind me as I look to the top. It is very high up, too high. I never was afraid of heights, but I guess I've never been really challenged. Yes, the cliff is dangerous but I wasn't alone. It always comes back to that doesn't it?
No one seems to notice that they left me behind next to a stand that sells cotton candy. The sweetness of it makes me sick to my stomach and I turn around, ready to run from it all. This is why staying in is good. It keeps me from constantly going over my comfort zone. I have done nothing else since I am here and I am done with it.
As I look over my shoulder no one seems to notice that I am missing and that makes me sad. So sad that I start to walk faster. Still managing to look over my shoulder while practically running isn't helping much so within seconds I bum into someone. My heart turns to ice when I see who it is.
"Where are you running from?"
"Nothing," I say trying to look casual. "What are you doing here?"
"I texted that I was coming," she reminds me. Of course I knew, Harry is irritated with me because of her.
"Yeah." I shake my head as if I just totally forgot. "I'm leaving though so have fun."
I start to make my way pass her but she stops me by tugging at my arm. "Look, we sure can do stuff together or do you hate me that much?"
"No, no... this isn't about you. I'm just not feeling well so. See you around!" I hope I sound cheerful and to complete the look, I smile to Rosie then focus on the spot where she's still holding my arm. Is it just me or she is deliberately still squeezing my flesh?
"Okay then. Have fun on your own," she starts to type on her phone and I rub over the spot that she finally released. She's probably giving away my hide-away as we speak, so I decide it is time to continue.
But with one step I bump into someone else. This time it is Liam and I don't remember seeing him when we arrived. He must have come here with Rosie. She's still standing still, typing on her phone when Liam starts to speak. "Hey, Lexie why are you here?"
He frowns as I open my mouth a couple of times not capable of forming a sentence. I know I am losing precious time and that someone will find me soon enough and force me to go on that stupid Ferris Wheel.
