Her legs feel unnatural under my touch. They are both broken so I have to support them in a way it doesn't hurt her any further. My hands are gripping her thighs to keep her steady.
"Her body finally turned off from the pain, that's a good thing," Liam murmurs under his breath.
He's dragging her body from behind, his arms wrapped under her shoulders and over her stomach. We try to do it as careful as possible but it is hard and she's heavy. Even though she's tiny, she unconscious and her body is a lump.
"I guess," I whisper back as I struggle to keep her in the right position.
I exhale deeply when we place her on some more even ground and Liam starts to rumble in his first aid bag.
"Here," he hands me some gauze so that I can clean some of the superficial cuts on her face and arms. "I'll go stable her legs and then we can go back to grab the gurney."
"How are we going to get her back on the trail?" I wonder as I slowly clean her wounds, her face becoming more and more real and her husband keeps creeping back in to my mind.
"Probably with rope and a lot of man power. We have to strap her in good," he explains and I picture it in my mind. "Then the ambulance will take her."
"Will the heli leave at one point? The sound is blasting my ears," I tell Liam while I can't help but stare a bit to Liam. He looks truly in his element as he puts some sort of brace around her leg. He's done much faster than me and I realize he just gave me this job to do, to kill time while he worked magic.
"Yeah, you can order them to leave."
"Me?"
"Well, I'll do it. I'm done here, last walk back again," he talks and starts to move immediately.
Using my walkie-talkie – although I think I lost it again – Liam tells the heli above us that he can go and thanks them for their help. Within moments I am granted with silence. We reach the others rather quickly and they hand us a red gurney.
As we drag it back to Marian, I flicker my eyes to Harry every chance I get. Until I can't no longer see him because he's floating too close to the cliff. I don't know why he stays there, why he doesn't return to the beach to help Rosie out. I'll survive now that I have Liam by my side.
The gurney is lightweight but I wonder how we'll bring it back with her in it. To our horror she has gained conscious when we return her eyes flickering back from me to Liam.
"Hello Marian, do you remember me?" I crouch down next to her my eyes pleading for an answer.
She shakes her head in a childlike way. As if she's afraid. I place my hand on her shoulder in a reassuring way.
"I'm Alex, we are here to help you okay?"
Her eyes scan my face and then flutter to Liam. He gives her a small smile. "Okay," she whispers.
"Are you in pain?" I ask her and she nods again.
"Do you want some pain medication?" Liam questions her already searching in his first-aid bag.
"Yes, I... might need.. it," she's drifting off again and Liam watches her closely.
"I shouldn't give her the full doses or she'll be out again," he tells me coming dangerously close to me with a needle. "Don't worry," he laughs and sticks the needle in her upper arm.
"Are we even allowed to do that?"
"No, but I am a nurse," he explains as he retracts the needle from her skin where a little bubble of blood appears. "Put pressure there."
