She had only spied them when Draco Malfoy, unmistakable in his arrogance, had started to terrorize the two new friends. She had pushed her way through the rows and taken both Harry's and Ron's arm, casting the blond boy a nasty glare. "Piss off you little slimy twat.", she grumbles and pulls the two away from him. "Merlin Chrys. Don't scare us like that!", Harry grumbles. She smiles cheekily and Morticae, who is still sitting perched on her shoulder Hoo's in the bespectacled boys face. "I thought I'd help you two out. Malfoys are quite an enemy and annoyance to have. But you'll live.. I think." They laugh as an older witch with a strict face but mischief in her eyes walks up to them, making them quickly stiffle their laughter. "We are now ready to sort you. Follow after me." Chrysoprase hurries along with the two boys.
They enter the great hall and as both boys stare in awe at the ceiling Chrys gently guides them so they wouldn't trip.
They wait as a relatively large group of students in front of the sorting hat who begins singing and Chrys let's them both go as they have finally stopped staring at the ceiling and instead gossip about a teacher and the house Slytherin. "I hope we'll all be in the same house.", Ron whispers and Chrys smiles. They wouldn't be. There was no chance they would be. Those two were Gryffindors and she.. well.. She was a...
"Chrysoprase Lapis!" She slides past the others and walks past the Malfoy heir who just gapes at her in shock. Jumping onto the stool she has the hat placed on her head. "Fiercely ambitious and intelligent but too kind to be a real snake.. HUFFLEPUFF!" With a happy smile she slides off her chair and hurries to the applauding house table awaiting her. "Welcome to Hufflepuff!", an at least two years older boy she had sat down next to tells her. "Thank you.", she happily smiles.
"We don't get a lot of pureblood elite, so this is very new and nice diversity. My name is Cedric Diggory by the way." Chrysoprase smiles. "You can call me Chrys if Chrysoprase is too long to handle for you." He grins. "Sounds good to me." "Ron Weasley?" She immediately glances up to the mass of students. "HA! Another Weasley! I know exactly what I'll do with you! GRYFFINDOR!" The girl smiles and claps for her friend who hurries to the table in red and waves over at her. "Friends with the Weasleys..hu?" "No. Just met him and Harry Potter on the train. They are really nice.", she tells Cedric who blinks in surprise. "Where do you think he'll go?"
"Harry Potter?", the professor calls out. Chrysoprase watches as we friend takes a seat on the chair. She doesn't even need to wait for neither Harry nor the sorting hat. "Gryffindor. Without any question."
And indeed just a moment later the dark haired boy hurries to sit beside his friend and also waves her and she waves back happily. "I hope you'll make friends in our house as well.." "Am I not already friends with you?", she asks, casting a cheeky smile at Cedric. The older boy grins. "Touché." She already felt comfortable in the house of happy colors and badgers. They spend the feast talking to each other and, after they switch places, he introduces her to his other friends who immediately welcome the first year into their circle like the sweet puffs they are. The first year quickly leaves her shell, the acceptance she gets from the older students helping her do so. Professor Sprout, head of the house, hands out their timetables and Chrysoprase grins while those around her groan. "Why are you so happy?", Eleanor, one of Cedric's friends asks. "My sister had me study at home with her when she was still in Hogwarts. I already know what we'll learn in those subjects for the next few years. And also.. I have transfiguration first and after that potions. I love both subjects a lot and my mother is the potioneer that created the revolutionary skelegrow potion and enabled many wizards to recover after magical accidents or the matter. Brewing is in my blood and I'm so excited." The other students smile at her. This girl was simply adorable in her sweet rambling, trusting happiness. "Do we know your sister?" "Probably not." "What's her name?" "Sapphire. Sapphire Lapis." Cedric blinks, then his eyes widen in recognition. Instead of saying anything the older boy simply gives Chrysoprase a side hug that she leans into ever so slightly. She didn't want pity or condolences. She just wanted happiness and comfort. That's all she needed. "Do you want a glass of pumpkin juice?" Chrysoprase sighs and shakes her head, making the others chuckle. "I hate pumpkin everything."
