Am I really doing this?

I pondered while staring at the opened suitcase on my bed. After a few pleas, I gave in to Taehyung's offer and decided to go with him. The look of joy on his face was so pure and genuine it made me shutter with butterflies just recalling it.

He and Yoongi left but not before telling me the flight time and where to meet him. Taehyung kept the details a bit vague but from what I could gather, he seems to have everything planned out. This must have been something on his mind for quite some time.

In the back of my closet, I pulled out the antiqued, mahogany chest my grandmother gifted me some years ago. The most endearing keepsakes are stored here and his letters are the bulk of my treasure.

Untying the green ribbon that secured them, I shifted through the envelopes, looking for one in particular. Carefully examining the dates, I separated one from the bunch and opened it. Sitting flat on my floor, I began to read:

Hey Kye,

How's life at uni? Did you do well on your topic in the public speech class or did you bore everyone to sleep? *laughs*

My studies are going okay. I should be reviewing for a test but I couldn't help but read the last letter you sent me so I could respond.

I know I kind of ranted in my last letter and I'm sorry for that. My parents expect so much from me and make all these plans for me and I feel like I don't have a say. You are the only person I can talk to about this and you listen to me.

You're the greatest friend!

I need to repay you someday! *smiles* Wait, I know! I'm coming to see you! No, not like tomorrow but one day! We can choose a place in America we both want to visit and spend a week eating and sight seeing! Maybe we could find a beach! Doesn't that sound awesome?

If I had to choose, it would be Hawaii for sure! Surfing, lots of food and hula girls! Ha! What would be your choice? Probably New York or Chicago you pizza fiend. *smiles*

Kye, you are the longest friend I've ever had and you know things about me that no one else does. I wish you were here Kye. I wish I could see you everyday. In my next letter will be an application for your Visa and a book on learning Korean.

I'm stealing you from America! *laughs*

I have to go. Got to study. Write back soon, please.

Sincerely,

T

My thoughts smiled before I felt it appear on my face. To think this was only written a few years ago and now it's my present. He must have been saving like crazy to be able to do this. I almost feel guilty; I should do something to contribute.

I folded the letter and placed it in the envelope. I gathered them all together and tied the green ribbon around them, setting them back in my mahogany chest. Sighing, I snuck it back into my closet and stood up to begin my search for outfits suitable for my trip.

A mindless chore while my thoughts drifted between several realities. Packing is a breeze.

Once completed, the hour had now approached for my ride, who just alerted me that they've arrived. I took a quick walk around my apartment, making sure things were in place and that I wasn't leaving anything behind. With a deep breath, I gathered my suitcase as well as myself and proceeded out of my apartment and headed to my destination.

We arrived at the airport where I was met by Yoongi. In his silent manner, he smiled and gestured me to follow him. After a maze of check ins and security, we ended up at a private hangar where Taehyung stood waiting.

So many thoughts gyrated into a state of endless questions. A private jet? Was the one that stuck out the most. How is he able to do this?

Taehyung smiled when I approached him. The bright lights in the hangar allowed me to admire the glow that radiated from my friend. Happiness was so evident within him that he could sneeze sunshines.

It was infectious.

"Excited Kye?" he gushed.

"I-I..."

I'm stuttering because I'm still in shock and I don't know when I will recover from it or if I will ever. "Yes very excited and nervous. Extremely nervous." I admitted.

Taehyung nodded. "I know you have a fear of flying but trust me Kye, you have nothing to worry about as long as you're with me, okay?"

Yes it's a fear. A big fear. I've talked about this so many times in our letters, how could he not forget? However, I was calmer than I expected. I guess knowing that he's here makes it a little better.

A nervous gasp escaped me as he inched closer. My lips were parted as our stares communicated thoughts of their own.

"T-There is something I always wanted to do..." his baritone quivered. "May I?" Taehyung extended his hand out, palm facing up. "Take my hand. I'm here with you Kye. I will help you conquer your fear."

Holding my hand? The touching gesture would have me bursting into tears if I weren't trying so hard to be brave. Never would I imagine him to be this sweet from the many times we would tease each other.

Placing my hand in his, I released a shaky breath but the minute I felt the warmth of his touch, I was comforted.

"Okay." I whispered before being escorted to board the jet.

♥️♥️♥️

To see this book growing makes my heart melt. Thank you! You all have my utmost gratitude. Please tell me, what do you think so far?
