 We don't meet people by
accident. They are meant to
cross our path for a reason.

Mathew:

"I never thought you'd have dibs on my wolf," I commented as we trekked our way through the forest.

"Dibs?? I'd say that your wolf is my most favorite teddy bear."

I scoffed. "Only if you saw him kill. You'd say he's your worst nightmare."

"Kill? Who would he kill?" She asked looking cautiously. She seems to put some distance between us. She looked nervous. I wondered why.

"Not just him. It's us- Zev and me. Well, there are wolves called rogues who get removed from packs for some serious crimes. They are savage and try to kill any wolf who wander the woods especially ones who emit power like a warrior, a Luna, an Alpha, or any other form. I've been in numerous situations like that. I made a few friends who parted ways. Long story. But, most importantly, they kidnap stray humans, that is, if the packs don't find them first. Pack or not, the werewolves believe that humans are below them and take them as slaves. Some of the things I learned while roaming these woods as a Lone Wolf."

She remained very silent. She kept looking around like she was expecting something to happen. She maintained a distance from me.

A few minutes passed and she looked at me only to quickly avert her eyes.

Hew, talk to her.  My wolf whispered.

" Hey, Cassidy?"

"So are you gonna give me away? Like, will they pay you?" Her voice shook. She still refused to meet my eyes while her fingers fiddled with the straps of her backpack.

"What? No! Why would you think that? Do you think so low of me? Of course, you just met me yesterday... Cass, I would never do that."

"Okay," she said in a small voice.

She doesn't trust us. My wolf stated.

'I wonder why.'

I think something must've happened.

"Hey Cassidy, how did you end up at the bottom of the waterfall?"

"I told you already. I slipped," she said looking down as if watching her footfall.

Momentarily, Zev's ears perked up and my nose scrunched at the scent.

Rogues.

I looked at Cassidy finding her looking around frantically as she grabbed a knife from inside her bag. How did she know? She dropped her bag and stood with the kitchen knife.

I immediately stripped my clothes which were only my boxer shorts and shifted. I heard moment behind me. I turned around quickly, bending low momentarily and sunk my canines into the rogue's throat.

Sneaky. But nothing works against me. I sunk them deeper and felt him go limp.

Cass stood still, her stormy grey eyes wide and horror was written all over her face. I didn't know if it was because of me or the rogue. We were surrounded by more rogues. I quickly moved to her side pushing her behind me to protect her. I bared my canines in a silent warning for the rogues to back off or meet death by my canines.
