So this was originally supposed to be a headcanon, but I just wrote a lot for it. Okay, so this is going off the theory I came up with.
Ben's POV
Pacing back and forth in the shelter I had made for myself, I kept going over the same scenario in my head. If I went, I might die...again. If i stayed, I would definitely die. Peeking outside, I see the snowstorm is still raging outside. Teeth chattering, I almost just give up altogether. But then one thought makes me change my mind and climb inside an abanonded tie fighter I found. Rey. She is at the Resistance base. If she finds me before the rest do, I might stand a chance at surviving. I only need to find the base.
Breathing deeply, I open the Force connection. It opens, and I call her name.
She screams, and drops the pot she was holding. It shatters at our feet, but neither of us care. She just looks at me, as though I am a ghost. I feel the connection waver, and speak quickly. 'Look, we haven't got much time. I just need you to tell me where the Resistance base is.'
The connection is almost closed now, and she can feel me slipping away. 'Yavin 4!' She says loudly, and the connection shuts off completely.
But I am grinning. Looks like I'm going to Yavin 4.
I start up the fighter and plot the course. Jumping to light speed, I find myself in front of a small green planet. I hear Rey's voice in my head; I will tell them not to shoot. Approach slowly and land in front me. Then the connection cuts off again.
Cursing under my breath, I slow down and fly lower. I see buildings up ahead, and a lone figure in the middle of a clearing. It is not a clearing in the greenery, I realise, but a clearing of the sea of people. Touching down, I take a deep breathe. This is it. There's no turning back now.
Pressing the control to lower the ramp, I stand up and crouch so I can reach it. These fighters were obviously made for people shorter than me. Stepping down the ramp, I am met with deathly silence. I can feel the glares piercing my skin. If looks could kill, I'd be dead a thousand times over.
'Ummm... hi.' I say, unsure what to do next. Then I hear a shriek.
'Ben!' Looking up, I am met with someone flinging their arms around me and hugging tight. Only one person would greet me like this.
'Rey.' I breathe, wrapping my arms around her. Over her shoulder, I risk a glance at everyone else. They look shocked, confused, and even angry. Then the silence is broken.
'You have no right to hug her!' Rey twists around, my arms falling limp to my sides. Of course I have no right to hug her. She spent ages trying to kill me, and I likewise to her. I turn, intending to head back to my tie fighter and leave, when I feel myself grabbed by the hand and whirled around.
'Where do you think you're going?' Rey asks me, loud enough for everyone to hear. 'You are not abandoning me again, Ben Solo.' There is a collective gasp as she uses my name. Then she turns and faces the guy who called out earlier.
'Poe.' She adresses him.' Ben saved my life with the Emperor. I owe my life to him. He gave his life so I could live. Although,' she adds, turning to me. 'How did you survive?'
Here it is. The moment I was dreading. Taking a deep breathe, I start my story. 'I had no idea until a month ago, when I used the Force to talk to Leia and Luke. They told me that... Look, I know this is going to sound crazy, but it's the truth okay?'
Rey took my hand again, smiling up at me. 'I promise I will believe you.'
I nod, and continue. 'They told me that no dark person had ever truly turned. When I did, it disturbed something in the Force. I felt a rush of Light power inside of me, and it knocked me into a coma for a few days. When I woke up, I knew I had to find you again.'
By the time I'm finished speaking, everyone was staring at me with open mouths. But what shocked them even more was what Rey did next.
She cupped my face in her hands, and kissed me long and hard. Everyone was frozen with shock, myself included. But I could soon move again. My hand moved to cup her cheek, the way it did after we defeated the Emperor. When we finally pulled apart, the silence was deafening. Rey turned to her friends, smiling. I was grinning like an idiot, but my smile soon turned into a frown.
Poe stepped forward again, but this time his words hurt more than anything I'd ever experienced. 'Alright, Ren, you've had your fun. Now stop playing tricks on her.'
I lifted my hand, ready to send him flying, but Rey got there first. Lifting a hand, she put such emotion behind her action that Poe went flying, landing with a sickening crunch against a wall. He slid down it, motionless.
I looked back at Rey, and her expression was thunderous. 'If anyone ever tries to discredit Ben Solo ever again, I will personally strangle them. Ben is not playing mind tricks. We have had a Force connection ever since I went to the island to see Luke. I knew he was conflicted, and I turned him. If Ben had not given himself up, I would not be standing here. Ben Solo is a hero, and if anyone tries to say otherwise, I will kill them.'
And with that, she kissed me again. 'I love you.' She whispered quietly. 'Ben Solo.'
