Adrienne woke up to soft knocking on her door. Groaning, the girl peeled her eyes open the find the night sky outside her window still a dull blue. How early it was exactly, she had no idea.

She swung her legs over the edge of the bed, the floor cold on her skin, and made her way over to the door. Opening it, she was met with a girl, probably around twenty or so, holding a stack of clothing. The thin material looked a lot like workout clothes; these were her training clothes.

Adrienne gave the girl a small smile and held her hands out for the clothes, which the girl immediately handed over. "Thank you." The blond muttered. The strange girl just nodded before walking away from the door.

The blonde pushed aside her confusion before turning, starting to close her door. Before it could latch, however, a hand gently pushed the door back open. Adrienne turned her head and saw Finnick standing there, wearing washed blue jeans and a white shirt that hugged his body. The all too familiar smirk plastered his face.

"Morning, sunshine." He said. "I see you've gotten your clothes."

She nodded. "Yeah, this girl dropped them off. It was so weird, though, she didn't spea-"

"Avoxes." The mentor said, interrupting the girl. "All the servants here are; Capital carved their tongues out so they couldn't deny their orders." Adrienne nodded in acknowledgment, but still didn't understand why the Capitol did such cruel things. "Anyways, breakfast is in thirty minutes; Fleurie sent me to wake you up, but it seems I didn't have the privilege."

Adrienne rolled her eyes at his teasing smirk. "Two minutes too late, Odair."

"This time." He said cockily before turning on his heels and walking down the hall towards the living room, leaving the blonde girl standing in her doorway.

Sighing, she shut the door and made her way to the bathroom, setting the new clothes on the dresser on her way over. The girl stripped her night clothes away and stepped into the glass shower which was already steaming up from the warm water.

The girl just stood there, letting the water run down her head and back as she got lost in her thoughts. She thought about everything that led her to this moment and everything that was yet to come.

Adrienne didn't realize how long she was standing there until a knock came at the bathroom door, followed by a familiar voice.

"Adrienne?" Vern asked curiously. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah." She spoke, her voice hoarse. Clearing her throat, she spoke again. "Yeah. I'm fine."

"Oh. Well, breakfast is ready. Fleurie sent me to get you."

"Alright. I'll be out in a few."

Adrienne waited until she could no longer hear the boy's footsteps walking away before letting out a sigh. The blonde quickly washed herself before turning off the water and stepping out, changing into a pair of leggings and a loose grey sweater she had set out.

When she exited her room, the smell of delicious food met her nose, making her stomach rumble. She made her way to the main room, where the dining table was set up on a raised platform.

"Ah, there she is." Finnick's voice echoed through the room. He was sitting at the table, leaning back in his chair with a cup of coffee in his hand. "Come to finally join the party?"

"Yeah. Where is it?" She joked, giving the boy a weak half smile as she sat down across from him, Vern sitting to her left.

"Oh, please, honey. Anywhere I am is a party."

"Keep telling yourself that, Odair."

The mentor just chuckled lightly before taking a sip of his drink as he sat up straight. He set the cup down before he started speaking. "So, either of you have strengths? Bow? Swords?" He smirked slightly. "Trident?"

Adrienne knee what he was getting at; the victor had fought his way out of the arena with nothing but the three pronged weapon and a small carving knife. She remembered watching it in the square, being quite impressed when the fourteen year old was pronounced the winner.

"I'm pretty good with a bow." Vern spoke up before Adrienne could. "I'm decent with a sword, but it's been a while since I've used one."

Finnick nodded in thought as his eyes left the boy and traveled the the blonde across from him. "And what about you?"

"Spears." She said. "I've been working with them since I was young. Haven't really adjusted to anything else."

He nodded again, swallowing the bite of egg he had just taken. "Alright, I want you to work on swords today." Finnick said. "Both of you."

"Shouldn't we work with what we're good at?" Vern questioned.

"Why would you when you've already mastered the skill?" He questioned in return. "It also gives the two of you the element of surprise. The other tributes will underestimate you if they see you working on something you're not very good at. Save your skills for the evaluation."

The two tributes nodded, understanding the victor's thought process. He had been at this a long time; he knew what he was doing. At least, they hoped he did.
