The next morning, Adrienne made herself comfortable as she sat in the penthouse library. If she was leaving the Capital in a few hours time, the girl decided she'd spend it relaxing before the tour.
A book was open in her lap while her legs were thrown over the arm of a plush satin chair. Finnick was browsing through the shelves, having been looking for a book for the past twenty minutes.
"Ms. Sallow?" A voice said, causing the girl to look up from my book. There stood a woman, her brown hair held back in a tight bun at the back of her head, her hands folded in front of her. "President Snow would like to speak with you."
Adrienne could see the blonde boy stiffen in the corner of her eye, but it just caused her to be more confused. "What for?"
"He didn't say. He just sent me to fetch you. He's waiting for you in the parlor."
The girl nodded and stood up, closing the book before setting it onto the glass table. Taking that as a cue, the woman turned around and started walking out of the room, the newest victor following right behind her.
The walk down the hall was short, but soon the double doors leading to the parlor were opened. The girl walked in and, sitting in a red velvet chair was the white haired man himself.
President Coriolanus Snow.
"Ah, Ms. Sallow." He said, looking up from a paper as he heard the doors close. "Please, have a seat."
Adrienne did as she was told and slowly walked over to the man, sitting down in the chair across from him. A few moments of silence passed between them before the older man spoke up.
"Now, you are wondering why you are here, aren't you?" He asked.
She nodded slowly. "It's not every day you get called upon by the President."
"No, Ms. Sallow, it's not. But it isn't every day that you win the Hunger Games, either." The girl didn't speak as the man took a sip out of a teacup that sat next to him. "I'm not going to keep you here longer than necessary. You are considered...desirable by many here in the Capital, my dear."
Adrienne furrowed her brows, genuinely confused as to what the white haired man was talking about. "Pardon?"
Snow continued on as if she hadn't even spoken. "And with your newest victory, I've had dozens of requests flooding into my gates. Given your age, you are to be very useful to me."
"I'm sorry, but I'm confused."
"As I expected you would be." He chuckled lightly before going serious again, slightly worrying Adrienne how quickly he could go from happy to heartless. "You, Ms. Sallow, belong to me now. You will do as I tell you, without questions asked, whenever called upon."
"What kinds of things are you talking about?" The girl asked, her voice low and filled with worry. She asked the question, but she felt deep down that she already knew the answer.
The man didn't hesitate to answer. "Pleasuring, mostly. You'll lay with who I tell you, when I tell you. But, in return, I shall guarantee the safety of you and your loved ones."
"What does this get you?"
"Alliances. If people get what they want, I get what I want. Surely you must understand."
I'm truth, she really didn't. She didn't see why Snow had to use her to gain more power. But she just nodded hesitantly, not trusting her voice. Until she thought of something, a rush of courage coming through her.
"What if I refuse?" She asked bitterly.
Snow sighed as he dropped the papers he was holding in Adrienne's lap. "If you refuse, there will be consequences."
Her hand covered her mouth as she flipped through the pages, trying to best to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. She felt her heart speeding up, almost causing her to hyperventilate.
"So, we have a deal then, Ms. Sallow?" The President's sly tone interrupted her panicking; he knew he had won.
Slowly, the girl nodded, knowing she would break if she spoke. The older man chuckled lightly and stood up, walking out of the room without another word.
As the door shut behind him, she finally let the tears fall. She let the water droplets fall on the many, many pictures of her brothers; Arion, Niles, and even Matrix.
But what caused her the most pain was when the tears dropped right onto a picture of her and Finnick, when they had their first kiss just before the Games.
They were in danger, and she had to do this to save them. She had to.
