Not wasting a second, Adrienne jumped down from her pedestal and pushed herself into the grass field. She used her arms to swipe at the tell plants, some hitting and smacking her in the face as she ran, but she didn't stop or slow down. All that mattered was getting to the cornucopia before the other tributes. Especially the careers.
After what seemed to be hours of running, she finally burst out of the tall grass into a field where the grass was trimmed. She didn't stop running as she saw the cornucopia set up in the middle of the field, with only a couple other tributes out of the grass.
She ran and ran until she reached the very outside, where there were a few smaller or unpopular weapons laid out, along with some backpacks. The girl ran towards them, looking around her as she did so.
She stopped immediately as she saw her District partner across the field, fighting who appeared to be the girl from Ten. Adrienne was about to ran over when Vern made a move and the girl dropped to the ground with the sound of a cannon.
Without a second thought, the boy grabbed the blade she had dropped and took off into the field. The blonde girl shook her head, knowing she would just find him later, and took off towards the supplies.
She picked up two bags, one for her and one for Vern, seeing as he hadn't already gotten one. A little ways away, she could see a small sword, and next to it a spear.
Just as she took a step towards it, she was tackled to the ground. She groaned as her body came in contact with the hard dirt. The person on top of her twisted her around until they were face to face.
On top of her was the boy from District Seven, a small blade in his hand. As he brought his hand down, Adrienne lifted hers up, grabbing onto his wrist and pushing him away. The two of them struggled against each other before her arms started getting weak, her arms starting to bend.
The blade got close to her, sinking slightly into her left arm. She howled in pain, but the pain also seemed to give her some strength. The girl kneed the boy in the back, taking him by surprise and shoving his weight off of her.
In an instant, she got on top of him and took his own blade from him before sinking it into his throat. As soon as blood started spilling, she took it out and held onto it as she ran away from the cornucopia and into the field.
As she ran, she could hear the cannons going off, one by one; she counted seven total. But she didn't think about them. Not at all.
All she could think about was finding her friend. About finding Vern.
