Her lungs felt heavy, like they were sinking and pulling the rest of her down with them. They burned and ached, like a fire was ignited inside her chest.

And, in a way, there was.

There was a revenge flame burning bright inside of her. Revenge against the Capital for putting her in the Games. Revenge against District Twelve for putting Sarah in the arena, only resulting in the death of her friend.

But most of all, revenge against herself, for giving up when the end seemed so near.

She sat up quickly, taking in a sharp inhale of breath. The air felt cold against her lungs, as if she hadn't taken it in in a long time. She looked down at the tubes and wires going into her, instantly moving to yank them out.

"Hey." A soothing voice said, pressing their hands against her shoulders and laying her back, moving her hands away. "Hey, take it easy. No need to go run a marathon quite yet."

Adrienne looked up, only to see a pair of ocean blue eyes looking at her with relief and worry. Her heart skipped a beat as he looked into her eyes, remembering the last time they were together.

"Finnick...." She breathes out softly, her voice hoarse and throat dry. "What happened?"

"The dam burst." He said. "The Gamemakers caused it, obviously. Kit didn't make it, but they managed to get you out."

"How am I alive? My injuries-"

"Were lethal, yes, but we got you out in the brink of time." The victor looked down at his hands. "They...they actually weren't sure you were going to make it."

"Then why didn't they save Kit? He deserved it."

"He drowned. Hit his head on a piece of cement on the way down. There wasn't anything they could do at that point."

Adrienne nodded slowly and turned her head to look up at the ceiling. As if they were on pause during the entire Games, her emotions came crashing to the surface, hitting her like a freight train.

The girl shook with sobs and she lifted her hands and covered her face. Tears rolled freely down her cheeks and she made no effort to stop them.

Strong and gentle arms wrapped around her, pulling them into a comforting embrace. Finnick cradled the girl close to him, amazed by how she was reacting to it all. He had to admit, he was different after the Games, but he didn't expect this from the blonde girl.

He was confounded how someone so strong could come out so fragile and broken.
