Eight months later....
Jordan pulls up in front of Vivian's apartment complex. He looks in his rear view mirror to see both his kids smiling. They missed their mom when Jordan has them. But they also missed their dad when Vivian has them. "You two ready to see your mom?"
Lexington spoke for them both, "Yes Dad."
Jordan looks at the clock on his cell phone. "Well we're a little bit early, so I'll just walk you two up. I've got to get back on the road, it's a long drive back to Boston."
"It's okay Dad, we can go by ourselves. You don't need to. " Layla told him.
"No, its ok baby girl, I want to. I need to talk to Mommy about next months visit schedule anyway. So I'll just take you two up and talk to Mommy before I head home."
Jordan grabbed the kids bags and backpacks and followed them into the building. There was a doorman, he smiled when he saw the kids. "Hello Lex and Layla...has it been two weeks already? It's so good to see you two. Your mom is in her apartment. You two know the way. And who is this you've got with you today?"
They both laugh and Layla says, "This is our dad, his name is Jordan. Jordan Knight. Dad, this is Mike, he's mom's doorman."
Jordan shakes Mike's hand. Mike tells Jordan what great kids he has. "So well behaved and so respectful."
Jordan thanks him as the kids pull him to the elevator. They push the button. Jordan's feeling a little nervous, he hasn't seen Vivian or talked to her in two weeks. Not since she dropped the kids off to him after her last visit. It hadn't gone very well. They'd argued, well Jordan had argued. Vivian refused to argue anymore. She understood he was still hurt and angry at her for, what he considered, "walking away from them". But she was working on her. She was in therapy, which she'd never done before. Not seriously anyway. And she felt she was making real progress. Her therapist and she discussed Jordan at length. Vivian had wanted so badly to take care of herself and get back to her life with Jordan and their kids. But he made her make a choice, and it seemed he was going to stick with his decision.
So needless to say, things were still a bit difficult between Vivian and Jordan. If they stuck to only speaking about the kids things usually stayed amicable.
Jordan and the kids finally reached Vivian's floor, the elevator opened for them and who's standing there? Orlando. His eyes widened when he saw Jordan, "Well hi there kids! Hello Jordan, good to see you again." The kids say their hellos as they race to Vivian's door. Jordan just stands there. He can't believe Orlando is in New York, at his wife's apartment. Then he realizes how stupid that thought is. He glares at Orlando as they pass each other. Orlando never meets his gaze, not until the doors to the elevator begin to close. All he says is, "Look man, it's not what you think." Then the doors close.
I'm real sure it's not what I think. I think you're fucking my wife, you British prick. He thinks as he turns to go to Vivian's apartment. He can hear her and the kids talking, the kids are telling her that he's here to talk to her and they beg her not to fight with daddy. That pulls at his heart strings a little. "Oh sweetie, your daddy and I don't ever want to fight or argue. I'm sorry when we do. Its has nothing to do with you, okay. Know we both love you very much okay?"
"Mommy, why don't you love daddy anymore?" When Jordan hears Lex ask her this he pauses outside her door, he wants to hear her answer. "Oh Lexington, son I will always love your daddy. I will, I will love your dad until the day that I die. But sometimes even when two people love each other, things happen and it causes hurt and upset. Then it seems like, to other people, that those people don't love each other anymore. But there will always be love there." Vivian kisses him on the forehead and tells him to go play in his room.
Jordan knocks on the door and waits. Vivian pulls the door open and smiles at him. "Well this is a treat, you never come up to my apartment. How was the drive up today?"
"It was good. Traffic wasn't horrible I guess. Can we talk in private?" Jordan wanted to get this out of the way and get home. He didn't want to argue with her but he wanted to know what was going on with her and Orlando.
"Sure. What do you want to talk about?" She asks him as she goes to her bedroom. When she opens the door and walks in, Jordan stops outside the door, he looks inside. He hasn't been in a bedroom with Vivian in eight months. "Jordan, you wanted to talk in private? This is the only room we can have any privacy in. So let's talk." She sits on the edge of her bed.
Being alone, with Vivian, is difficult enough, but being alone with her, in her bedroom is fucking torture. "I was just wanting to know when you go back to California. I thought it was next month, and we need to figure out the visitation schedule. I was also wondering if you meant what you said to Lex."
"We're finished with filming all the reshoots. They are doing editing now. I'll go back to California when they complete the editing. And what are you referring to that I told Lex?"
"So visitation won't change next month?" Jordan ignored her question about Lex.
"Yes, as of now, things will remain the same. So what are you talking about that I said to Lex?" Vivian looks closely at Jordan. He looks good, he looks really good.
"Nevermind, it's not important. So I saw Orlando leaving as I got off the elevator. Are you two a thing now or something?"
Vivian exhales, here we go again, "For the hundredth time, no." She pushes herself off her bed and goes to walk out the door. "You better get going Jordan, you've got a long drive back to Boston." Jordan takes her by the arm. "I'm not trying to fight with you Viv. I'm sorry."
He let's go of her arm and moves across the room from her. He leans against her bed. She can see he's upset. So she stands away from the door and stares at him. "Jordan, is there something else you want to talk about?" She takes a step towards him. When he looks up at her, his dark brown eyes are filled with sadness. She hates that she's the reason for that. She hates that she's hurt him so much.
Vivian clears the distance between them, she touches his face, he closes his eyes, "Jordan I'm so sorry for the pain I've caused you. It's the last thing I meant to do." He takes her hand, this is the first time they've touched since she left. He runs his hand up her forearm, it's all healed now, no cast anymore. He wished they could heal like her arm. "How are you Vivian?"
"I'm better, I've been seeing a therapist. She's helped me a lot." His fingers are still running up and down her forearm. It feels nice, him touching her. She's missed him. Even though she needed this time apart from him to heal, she's missed him so very much.
"How have you been Jordan?" He looks at her, and realizes she's been staring at him. "I've been miserable without you" he says. He pulls her against him, she inhales at the feel of his body against hers. The next thing she knows, she kisses him. It feels amazing. But she knows it's wrong. She stops it almost immediately. Jordan protests and pulls her back to him. "Jordan, we can't. I'm sorry. It's not right. Nothing's changed."
"You're right. Nothing's changed, you're still my wife. What could be more right than a husband kissing his wife?"
"You know what I mean Jordan. Look when I bring the kids back Sunday, I'll drop them at my dad's, he's been asking to see them. And we can talk then. Okay? Is there somewhere you'd like to meet?"
"Yeah just come by the house. I'll see you Sunday. And Vivian don't ever apologize for kissing me."
