Jordan's drive home seemed to pass by quickly, he couldn't stop thinking about today. First Orlando leaving Vivian's apartment. Second hearing Vivian tell Lex that she still loves him. And third, that fucking kiss. God he'd missed her. Even though he saw her at least every two weeks, its not like he really saw her. Usually they'd barely speak. Or Jordan would start an argument just to keep her around longer.
He really missed her touch. Today when she touched his cheek, he thought it was the best thing he'd felt in his whole life. Then, God help him, when her lips touched his, he felt like his heart was finally back. Just to have it taken away again. He had to get her back. He knew they belonged together. He just had to figure out what she needed him to do for her to come home. He didn't go home when he got to Boston, he went to Donnie's. He'd ask him what to do.
"Well hello brother, how's it going" Donnie looked past Jordan, "Where are the twins?"
"Hey Donnie. It's going. They're with Viv, I just got back from dropping them off. That's what I need to talk to you about. She kissed me. And I heard her telling Lex that she still loves me. What do I do? I need to get her back."
"Jordan, I don't know what you need to do. Have you asked her?" Just then Angie comes in the room.
"Damnit Jordan, are you really this stupid? You need to hear what happened to her. She needs to be able to tell you what that psycho did to her. But she also needs to not see you look at her with pity. Don't you get it yet? She couldn't get better with you not knowing. How could she heal with you, when you didn't know what she was healing from?""I told her she could tell me. I was willing to hear it."
"God Jordan, you really are stupid. I never realized you were this ignorant. You told her she could tell you? That you were willing to hear it? Oh for fuck's sake Jordan. Do you hear yourself?"
Jordan's confused, "What Ang? What am I missing here?"
Angie exhales heavily, "Okay I'm going to explain this to you once Jordan. She didn't need you to be willing to hear what happened. She needed you to want, no not want, she needed you to need to hear it. She needed you to have to hear it, so you could heal, together. But you weren't ready. She couldn't take the guilt you felt for what happened to her. You weren't ready. But she was, so she had to go, she had to get the healing started. She won't come back until you're ready."
"But I am ready, I'm ready for her to come back."
"No you idiot!"
"What? I am ready. I miss her. I want her home. I'm sick of this shit, my wife living in New York, its bullshit. I'm sick of feeling like I've lost her."
"Jordan you need to be ready to hear the whole story of that awful week. And you have to be ready to hear it without flinching, without making her feel small or weak. You need to hear it but focus on the fact that she survived, that she was strong and brave and survived it all. But, and this is the most important part. If you can't do that, if you can't listen to every terrible detail, and trust me when I tell you the details are fucking terrible, don't tell her you can."
Jordan didn't hesitate with his answer, "If it'll get her to come back, I can do whatever she needs me to."
Angie looked at Donnie in frustration, "Donnie can you please explain to this asshole what I'm saying? Maybe he'll understand it coming from you."
Donnie looks at Jordan, "Okay, I'll try. Jordan, think about what Ang just told you. Really think about it. Can you really listen to her tell you about Jason taking her, touching her, hurting her?" Donnie sees Jordan cringe. "See what you just did there? You recoiled at just the thought of hearing about it. You aren't ready man. She can't go backwards in her recovery for you. She's doing so good. Maybe you need to go see someone about it. Talk to someone, figure out how to get to the point where you're ready too."
"You think I need to talk to a shrink?"
Donnie nodded his head, "Yes I do. I think it'll help you get to the place you need to be. The place she needs you to be."
In New York
Vivian sits and reads, but none of the words she reads are sinking in. She's read the same paragraph three times. Vivian has been sitting in her favorite chair, in front of her picture window overlooking the city, since she put the kids to bed. She's tried everything to get that kiss out of her mind. But nothing is working. That kiss is all she can think about. Her fingers trace over her lips, as she finally allows the memory to wash over her. Heat flushes her cheeks as she thinks about that kiss and where it could have led to had she let it. Vivian pushes the thought from her head.
There's a soft knock at her door. Vivian looks at the time, it's late, just after midnight. Who could this be? She wonders. Vivian goes to the door and looks through the peephole. She sees Orlando on the other side of the door.
"Lando, what are you doing here? Are you okay?"
Orlando smiles at her, "Vivi, sorry for just stopping by, but I wanted to make sure everything is okay. Jordan saw me leaving earlier. So I wanted to stop by and check on you."
"I'm fine Lando. Would you like to come in?"
"Is that okay with the kids here?"
"Yes Lando it's fine, they're sleeping." Vivian turns and goes back into the living room, Orlando following her.
They sit down on the couch. "How was your evening Lando? Did you and what's her name have a good time?"
"It was okay. Jade and I had a nice time. She's a sweet girl."
Vivian laughs, "But...?"
Orlando looks at her, "But what?"
Vivian laughs again, "Well every girl you've gone out with lately has had a big but attached to her. No pun intended."
Orlando rolls his eyes, frustrated that she seems to know him so well, "But...she kept using the word "literally" too much. Like literally, she was using it to describe, literally everything. It was annoying. So I took her back to her place after dinner and told her I had to get up really early in the morning. And I left."
Vivian leaned into Orlando's side as they laughed about his night. Vivian had become increasingly close to Orlando since her abduction. He was her best friend these days. They'd spent a lot of time together since she moved to New York. He was the first person she'd been able to tell about her ordeal. He'd listened intently until she finished. Then all he'd said was "I'm glad that bastard is dead" and he asked her what she wanted for dinner. She saw no pity, or guilt, or tears in his eyes. Just admiration. That's exactly what she needed. So now they were extremely comfortable teasing each other about their day to day lives and just being close friends. Although she did sense he wanted more than just friendship with her, he never brought it up.
As they sat there on the couch together she teased him about his date. "So you didn't even give her a kiss goodnight?"
"Yes I may have, but it was just a peck on the cheek." Vivian looked up at him from his side, he felt her head tilt up to him, so he looked down at her. He was expecting to see her giving him some silly look, but instead she had a serious look on her face. Orlando's eyes darted back and forth between her eyes. Then he sees her eyes move to his lips.
"Just a peck? On her cheek?" Her voice was soft and breathy. He continued to look down at her beautiful face. "Yes just a peck, on the cheek" he said. Vivian turned her head slightly so her cheek turned up to him. He leaned down and placed a soft peck on her cheek, letting his lips linger just a moment. But as he lifted his face away from her cheek, she turned her head and her lips touched his. He froze, until her hand went to the back of his neck and she pulled him closer to her, causing his lips to flatten against hers. He still didn't move. Not until he felt her lips pucker under his and her lips open ever so slightly to kiss him. That was all the permission he needed to finally kiss her.
