Chapter 11

Steffie POV

To be honest I'm confused as hell, I mean I like MacKenzie, like a lot, but how do I know she's what I'm looking for, how do I know she even likes me and ugh, my mind is going everywhere..
Maybe I should call someone, yeah I think I'm going to do that.

I put my FaceTime on and call Katrien, she's a sister of my brother's friend, but like a big sister to me. Anyway here we go, I'm always nervous when on the phone so yeah...

*FACETIME* (AN: Don't worry, I'll translate it)
K-Katrien S-Steffie
S- Hey Katrien!
K- Hey Steffie, alles goed? Ik heb een tijdje niet van je gehoord.
S- Ja, em nee, ik denk het.. Ik weet het niet echt, daarom dat ik even FaceTime.
K- Oei, wil je afspreken? Zodat we even kunnen babbelen?
S- *smiles* Dat zal moeilijk gaan, tenzij je naar Amerika komt voor je werk.
K- Amerika?! Wat? Wow ok, ik heb blijkbaar toch wat gemist, maar vertel inderdaad nu dan maar wat je wou vertellen.
S- Wel, nu ja, ik vertelde je al dat ik gevoelens had voor iemand, en ik ben nu bij haar thuis, ik blijf hier tot ik mijn diploma heb en dan zoek ik werk. Nu mijn gevoelens voor haar zijn sterker aan het worden en ik denk dat het serieus is, maar het probleem is dat haar ouders heel katholiek en strikt zijn en nu ja.. *shrugs, trying to explain everything in short*
K- Als je echt van haar houdt zoals je aan mij beschrijft, dan moet je ervoor gaan, maakt niet uit wat haar ouders ervan vinden, maar misschien moet je nog een paar jaar wachten, totdat ze van school is. Ondertussen kunnen jullie elkaar wat beter leren kennen. Leeftijd maakt op zich niets uit Steffie, kijk maar naar mij en Marco, daar zit ook zo'n 14 jaar tussen.
S- *Sighs* Ik zal het proberen, we zien nog wel wat er gebeurd, het is nog een paar jaar voordat ze uit huis kan.
K- Geen probleem lieverd, je weet dat je altijd bij mij terecht kan.
*I smiled, remembering that I had at least one good friend back home*
S- Dank je Katrien, voor alles, ik bel je nog wel eens, zodat je weet hoe het met ons gaat.
K- Okay, tot nog eens, sweetie *blows a kiss, waving*
S- Bye, beautiful *blows a kiss*

Well that definitely cleared my mind. Give it time, that's what I'll do. I have to focus on my paper anyway, but that doesn't mean I can't get to know MacKenzie more in the mean time. Maybe I can bring her to school every day, so she doesn't have to take the bus every day or her mum doesn't have to take her. It'll be an excuse to be with her and in the mean time, get to know her more. Secretly that means keeping an eye on her too. I know she has a hard time in school, but I know it'll work out eventually. Thereby she doesn't have to go that long anymore, college is mostly easier, since you choose studies you love to do, so you don't have to force yourself to go. The only downside is, the money, the sometimes early hours and the difficult classes. If you sum it up like that, it sounds horrible, but you have to experience it, to know what I mean.

I put my phone away, looking for MacKenzie, who's laying in the couch with her dog, or maybe I should say, being crushed by her dog. "Are you comfy?" I ask walking up to her. "Yeah, she does that all the time, she forgets she's not a puppy anymore" she shrugs still watching her TV-show. "Are you hungry? I could make you something. That is if your mum isn't home I mean." I ask looking around for her mum. "Don't bother, mom's gone for the day, she went out with some friends and left pizza in the freezer" she informed me, when I got back in the living room. "Oh okay, thanks for letting me know. I'm going back to our room, if you're looking for me. I'm going to work a bit on my paper." She gave me a thumbs up not looking away from the screen. It must be interesting.

I start my laptop and get on my school website, searching for some instructions to write the paper. I check my Facebook, seeing a quote from Katrien: "Home is where the heart is" making me smile, of course she had to send that one now. At least she's right, I know I can always rely on her, she may be 9 years older than me, but I've always loved her and saw her as an equal.
My paper is going slow, but I have lots of information thanks to my role model Demi, my paper's about depression and if physical exercise is an indicator that reduces the depression. I'm not going to bore you with the writing of my paper, but let me tell you, it takes time to do it, so an advice... START ON TIME ! Says the one who procrastinates everything until she stresses out way too much..

*few hours later*

"Hey, are you hungry? My show is over and I thought maybe you wanted to eat something, since it's about 7PM.." MacKenzie asks, making me jump. "Oh hey, yeah sure, want me to put the pizza in or..?" I asked, saving my documents. "Nah, it's cool, it's already in the oven, want to watch a movie? You've been working on your paper for hours now" she says, pulling my chair backwards, away from the desk. I nod, getting up and stretching a bit "Yeah sure, which one?" "Em, I don't know, Hunger Games?" she says smiling. "Sure, that's cool" I say, mumbling after, "Not that I'll really watch the movie, I'll probably be watching you" scratching my neck. "Let me put my pyjamas on and then I'll be there in 5" I say, walking to my closet, taking out my pjs. "Sure, em you don't mind if Bubbles is in the room too? I don't really know how you are with dogs." she asks, walking out of the room. "It's cool as long as I'm not getting crushed like you earlier" I say laughing a bit. She gave a thumbs up and went into the kitchen, checking on the pizza, while I put on my pjs.

S- Yes, em no, I think so.. I don't really know, hence the FaceTimeing.
K- Oh, want to set a date? You know, so we can talk?
S- *smiles* That'll be difficult , unless you'll come to America for your job.
K- America?! What? Wow ok, I've missed a few things aparently, but do tell, what you wanted to say.
S- Well, em, I told you, that I had feelings for someone and I'm staying at her place at the moment, I'm staying here until I graduate from college and then I'll be looking for a job. But my feelings for her are getting stronger every day and I really think it's serious, but the problem is her parents are extremely catholic and strict and well.. *shrugs, trying to explain everything in short*
K- If you really love her, like you're describing to me, then you have to fight for it, it doesn't matter what her parents think, but maybe you have to wait for a couple of years, until she graduated. In the mean time you can get to know each other some more. Age doesn't matter Steffie, look at me and Marco, there's an agegap from about 14 years.
S- *Sighs* I'll try, we'll see what happens, it's still a couple of years until she can leave the house.
K- No problem darling, you know you can always come to me if there's a problem.
*I smiled, remembering that I had at least one good friend back home*
S- Thank you Katrien, for everything, I'll call you again, so you know how things are going around here.
K- Okay, see you , sweety *blows a kiss, waving*
