Steffie POV
After I left MacKenzie, I took off to the airport in Springfield. My flight would leave at 11 am so I should hurry. Ten minutes before the plane would take off I arrived at my gate, grabbing my iPhone from my backpack and put on some music. Fix a heart came on and I tried to keep my composure. I read my ticket and checked where I had to sit. I got a bit confused with the A,B,C, but eventually I found my spot, at the window and buckled myself in. I loved sitting there. You could just look outside and watch the world get smaller and smaller underneath you. Eventually you realise how small you are in this world.
When Give your heart a break came on I lost it, I was full on sobbing. I just couldn't take it anymore. I needed to let my bundled up emotions out. I was ready for New York, but at the same time I wasn't. I'm just a small girl, in a random city, soon in one of the biggest cities of the world. I had difficulties with apprehending this. If you would have asked me last year where I'd be one year from the moment you asked, I would have probably said that I'd be in a Belgian school, working as a co-worker to take care of children who needed help with studying. But now I'm here in America, ready to live my dream.
As I was listening to my music and still looking out of the window, even though we were still waiting to take off, I didn't hear the person next to me. "Excuse me", they said, gently shaking me, "I think you're sitting in my spot". I turned around, wiping my eyes, taking out my earbuds. "Sorry, do I have to take them out before we take off?" I asked, speaking about my earphones, not looking up yet. "Eh, I don't know about that, but you're sitting in my spot. Are you okay though? Have you been crying?" she asked, softly stroking my arm. "Yeah, I'm okay though, just..." I started, not able to finish my sentence when I saw Naya standing there. "S-Sorry, I'll move" I stuttered, quickly getting up forgetting I was already buckled up, so the seatbelt pulled me down again. Turning red, I unbuckled myself clumsily, but Naya interrupted me, "You know what, take the window seat, I don't mind, I think you were enjoying the view". I just nodded and buckled up again, not looking away from her. "Sorry, did I say something?" she asked. "Eh no, I just didn't want to be rude and stare out the window again" I told her honestly. "Aw, that's sweet of you, but it's okay for me, I don't mind" she replied, grabbing her phone from her purse, checking it. "Ugh, great, still no reply" she mumbled, buckling herself in.
"Do you want to listen to your music or do you want to talk? The flight is like 4-5 hours so..." she asked, smiling at me. Naya wanted to talk to me? Like what is this, is this a joke? Am I being filmed right now? I quickly looked around me, checking the people for cameras or if they were looking in our direction. When this wasn't the case I told her that I'd love to talk to her, instead of being anti-social and listening to music on my own. "So tell me a bit about yourself, because I'm pretty sure you know who I am, since you were so shocked seeing me here?" she chuckled, turning a bit to me, so we could talk better. "Well em, I don't know if you remember, but I met you yesterday at the meet and greet" I started, trying to get comfy in the plane seat. "Wait, were you the girl who came in last and wanted a picture with the both of us?" she asked. "Yup that would be me" I replied, giggling. "Can I ask you something?" I asked her, fumbling with my earbuds. "Sure, ask away" she said, waiting for my question. I wanted to ask her about Demi, but I changed my mind, "What are you going to do in New York?". "Well I don't know if you know this show I'm in, but Glee is starting again and we need to record" she said, while her smile grew. "Awesome, I love that show. I have to admit, I never watched it until season five came out, you know because of Demi, but then I really enjoyed it and I just had to see the rest of it" I blurted out, making random arm gestures. "Really now? What's your favourite episode?" she asked me, tucking her feet on her seat, resting her head against the headrest. "The Christmas episode from season five, especially the scene where Lea, Chris and you had to perform as Christmas elves and when you became Mrs Claus of course" I told her, feeling my cheeks redden. "Oh really? I remember that one, it was funny indeed" she laughed, making me smile.
"Excuse me, miss, you have to turn off your iPhone, we are about to take off" a steward told me. "Oh, right, sorry about that" I replied, turning my phone off, as Naya sat properly in her seat. I clutched my hands on the armrests, closing my eyes, when the plane started to ride to the airstrip. "Don't like the take-off?" Naya asked me. I peeked at her through my half-closed eyes, shaking my head. "Not really, I like flying, but the take-off and the landing scare the shit out of me" I told her honestly. With that she took my hand and stretched it open, trying to relax me, which actually happened. I kept my eyes closed, but my mind wasn't with the take-off anymore, it was thinking about my hand in Naya's.
As we were finally in the air, I looked outside of the window, seeing how everything just got smaller and smaller. The sun still wasn't at her highest point and there where low clouds on which the sun shone. It was a beautiful sight and I couldn't look away, that was until we were above the clouds and it got dark. "I think there's a storm ahead of us" Naya informed me, looking outside as well. I tried not to breathe too hard, since her neck was practically in my face and I didn't want to scare her away, but damn she smelled good. "Do you mind if I take a nap? I've been up and about from 5am" she said, leaning back in her seat. "No of course not" I replied, leaning back in my seat as well, "She looks amazing for being up for that long" I added in my mind. "Thanks" she said, grinning slightly. "Did I say that out loud?" I asked, blushing, happy her eyes were closed. "Yes you did" she giggled, tucking her feet back underneath her, getting more comfortable. I smiled at her, taking my phone so I could listen to some music, it was then I realised, she was still holding my hand, which made me smile even bigger. When a steward came around I asked him for a blanket so she wouldn't be cold, a moment later he got back and put the blanket around her.
Two hours later Naya woke up again, as I was looking outside listening to some music. She gently shook me, pulling my attention to her. She took an earbud out of my ear and thanked me for the blanket. "It's cool, I thought it would be more comfortable for you so" I told her, putting my music off, "Had a good nap?" I asked her. "Yeah thanks, it really was" she replied, when suddenly her stomach grumbled. "A-are you hungry?" I asked, grinning at her. "Yes, it's been a while since I ate. Want something as well?" she asked, calling for a steward. "Eh, I...eh, no thanks, I'm not that hungry" I replied, as the steward arrived next to her. "What can I get for you miss?" the steward asked, looking at Naya. "Could you bring me a chicken sandwich and a coffee please?" she asked, turning to look at me, "Are you sure you don't want anything?" "Maybe a chicken sandwich as well?" I asked unsure, shifting my gaze between Naya and the steward. "Alright, I'll be right back" he said, walking away.
A few minutes later he came back with the sandwiches and Naya's coffee, putting them on the little trays. "Here you go" he said, "Two chicken sandwiches and a coffee" We thanked him and I grabbed the sandwich, taking small bites of it. It was actually good and for once I didn't feel like I was forcing myself. "This is actually good, I've been on an airplane before where I got sloppy bread and smelly chicken. So it's definitely a step up" I laughed, taking another bite. We talked a bit more after finishing the food and eventually sat back up, preparing for the landing. I looked outside seeing New York for the first time, grabbing Naya's hand. As she didn't pull back, I guess she remembered I don't like the landing either.
When we landed a few minutes later, got up and said our goodbyes. I thanked her for the talk and went out of the plane, ready to face the city of my dreams.
