A few days later..
Steffie POV
Katrien's flight had landed about 15 minutes ago, now I was waiting for her to collect her suitcases and to come to me at the exit.
K- "Just got my suitcase! Jeez I forgot how big this place is! ;)"
I smiled reading that text and when I looked up from my phone, she was standing right in front of me.
"Hey sweetie! We should really meet up more, how long has it been this time? Five years?" She greeted, while hugging me. "That could easily be right," I admitted, "It's good to see you again though" I added, letting go of her. "Off to find a taxi?" She asked me, grabbing her luggage. "Want to get rid of me already? I told you, I'd come to collect you" I replied, grabbing one of her suitcases, going to the exit that lead to the parking area. She followed, staying rather quiet."Had a tough flight?" I guessed. "Pretty much yes, early boarding, lots of turbulence and the worst people sitting next to me on the plane. Normally I don't mind sitting next to Dutch people, but when they start eating their peanut butter sandwiches next to you,..." That made me laugh uncontrollably, Katrien used to spend all her summer holidays in The Netherlands plus her boyfriend is Dutch, so you'd think she's used to it, apparently not.
"Well it's good to know you've arrived here safe and sound" I told her honestly, lifting up her suitcases to place them in the trunk. "You still have this car? I thought it was as old as you?" she questioned, recognising the car. "It is but my brother and I took good care of it. It's funny driving around with it here, no one here has this type of car and the colour also really stands out" I replied, opening the door for her. "I'll close the rooftop, so you can take a little nap, we'll go to my apartment first, you can do whatever and then prepare for your meeting. Does that sound good?" She just nodded and closed her eyes, while I took off to my apartment, putting on some relaxing music.
Once we arrived at the apartment we were greeted by Sam, who was leaving for her morning shift. "Hey sweetie !" she mocked, holding the door so we could enter the building.
"What was that all about?" Katrien asked me, waiting for me to open my apartment door. "Oh don't worry, that's just Sam messing around with me. She overheard our phone call from a few days ago and she's been teasing me ever since she heard it" I explained, letting her go in first, dragging her luggage behind me.
"Wait, so you don't like it when I call you that? Do you think it's too childish?" She asked, looking slightly hurt, but covered it right away with a bright smile. "No, no, it's alright, I like it, it feels just like the old days, where I thought you were my big sister" I answered honestly, placing her luggage somewhere in my apartment. "Oh okay, wait thought? As in past time? You're still my little sister you know! And I'll still call you sweetie, even if you don't like it" I just smiled at her in reply, yep that's the Katrien I remember. "Nice apartment by the way" she said, while taking a quick tour through it. "It reminds me of an apartment me and Marc used to live in" she added, coming back to the hallway where I was still standing. "Thanks sis, would you like to drink something or?" I asked, leaving the question hanging. "I'd like to take a nap if that's okay with you, my meeting is in about two hours I think. What's the address here? Just so I can text it to my employers to come and collect me" she asked, while searching for her phone in her purse. While telling her the address, I cleaned up the kitchen, which I left in a hurry this morning. Two hours later my doorbell rang. "Is Katrien here?" A random guy in a suit asked, not even saying who he was. "And you are?" I asked in return, throwing him a dirty look. "None of your business, is she here or what?" He asked again, getting angry. "Nick! Yes, I am here, but there is no reason to be this vile to my host! Or should I call Harry?" Katrien threatened, making me smirk. It was obvious Katrien didn't like this guy, but now she had him quiet. "I'll be there in five minutes, you can wait outside" she told him, turning around to grab her stuff. Nick turned around, mumbling curses at her, saying she was lucky he still wanted to bring her to the meeting. "If it's alright with you, I'm coming back here after the meeting and then we can hang out in Central Park and catch up?" Katrien offered me, while kissing my cheek before leaving the apartment. "Text me when your meeting is over!" I called after her, closing the door.
Three hours after Katrien left, I got a message from Sam, saying her shift was over and she wanted to learn how to inline skate. Happily I accepted and told her to meet me at the mall, so we could buy her some skates. Ten minutes later I was at the mall looking for her. "Hey sweetie" she greeted when I saw her standing. "Hey Samantha" I fired back, giving her a hug, "How was your shift today?" I asked her while walking towards the skate shop. "It's really getting more and more crowded, according to the manager that is, and all that because of Naya" she chuckles, holding the door for me. "Thanks, and he should be thanking me. I'm the reason she was there you know, if I hadn't took her for dinner there she wouldn't have gone there" I joked, walking straight to the alley with the inline skate supplies. "Should I tell him to name a sandwich after you?" Sam chuckled again. "It would be an honour but whatever, I'm happy business is going great. Anyway, do you see anything you like here?" I asked referring to the skates. "Oh yes, I do" she said, looking me up and down, "Just kidding, yeah I really like those bright red ones, with the black accents" she quickly added when she saw me rolling my eyes. "Sorry I'm not Naya" she said evilly, poking my side. I ignored her, grabbing the skates for her size, "Here try these on" I told her, crouching down to help her. "You know I'm just kidding right?" She asked a bit worried. I just shrugged waiting for her to take off her shoes and get in the skates. In all honesty, it didn't hurt what she said, but it is true, I wish Naya would tell me she liked me too. I mean hadn't I told her that I really liked, even love her?
That moment I felt a tug on me, throwing me on the floor, wait what just happened? Laughter was heard next to my ear and a slight pressure on my legs. "Sam what just happened?" I exclaimed, realising it was her who was laughing in my ear. "I must have no balance at all, I just put them on and fell over" she chuckled, sitting up on her knees. Shaking my head, I got up and pulled her up with me, keeping her steady. "There, now try to keep standing on your own" I instructed, stepping back a few paces. "Okay, seems alright, now all we need is the protection gear, because I'm pretty sure you're going to fall a lot, seeing you couldn't even stand up properly" I joked, going to the other alley, that was filled with protection gear. "Hey come back! I can't move you know!" Sam shouted, trying to walk over, making her lose her balance. "Okay okay, I've got you" I said, quickly catching her, before she fell. "Oh god this is embarrassing" she whined, when I pushed her through the store. "Oh come on Sam, everyone started at the bottom, but if you feel better, I'll just hold you and you can take small steps" I reasoned, holding her by her waist. "Yes this is much better, thanks Steffie" she replied, allowing me to lead her through the store. "Alright, I believe I found your gear" I giggled, pointing at the stuff.
