"Here, some coffee. To warm you up," Officer Benett says to me as he hands me a styrofoam cup with coffee in it with a side smile across his face.

I look up at him and only shake my head as I wrap the blanket he gave me around me even tighter. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get warm.

Benett isn't the first officer to offer me coffee or something else warm or something to eat or drink either. It's starting to get on my last nerves if you ask me.

I've refused everything so far.

And I'm going to continue to do so.

"Why can't you just get a team out there and search for her!?" I shout at Jace. He shakes his head.

"It's freezing cold out there Kim! If we send a team out there, they'll freeze and we don't have the right equipment to even let them dive to search for her, let alone get a boat out there," he fights back. I shake my head as I continue to pace back and forth across one of the rooms in a nearby station.

"I still don't understand why you can't!" I shout back. He groans.

"Listen. If it were up to me, I would. In a heartbeat. But as you can see, I'm not really in the condition to do so." he says, gesturing to his leg, where a bullet hit him. "I want to just as much as you do. But this isn't even our district so I can't call the shots." he explains to me.

District my ass.

He's just making up excuses.

Even though him having a hole in his leg is valid enough, but still.

"So? She's out there, Jace," I say as I finally look directly at him. He flinches.

"Listen, as much as I really want to, it's out of our hands now because this isn't our district. I'm sure this station is going to do a search," he says. I only roll my eyes.

"And what if they don't?" I ask. He doesn't answer.

"Listen, I talked to them about doing a search. I'm sure they'll do it. As soon as possible." he tells me. I roll my eyes again.

"Yeah? When? It's already been a whole day since it happened and all they've been doing is sit on their asses," I snap again. He sighs.

He was right though.

They're out there now, completing a search for her. They have the right equipment to tackle the below freezing water temperature, unlike us. And the chief explained it all to me. Even though we were all there when it happened, the officers who were there can't do anything about it because it's not in their district.

It didn't happened on their grounds.

Nick is facing several charges. Kidnap. Assault. Harassment. Violations of his parol. Attempt in rape.

And murder.

But.

Even though everyone else besides Jace thinks so, I don't believe she's dead. She can't be. I know she can't be. She wouldn't give up that easily. Her stubbornness would kick in, right? Yeah. I'm almost positive it would.

But there's no denying the facts.

She's been out there for at least a day and a half now. In the below freezing cold water with two open wounds. The chances of her surviving, is slim. But that doesn't mean that I'm giving up on her.

No way in hell.

Shivers run down my spine as the sound of the gun shots echoes through my head. I didn't even see what happened but at the time, I seriously thought that it wasn't going to be as bad as it turned out.
