"Chloe! Over here!" I can't help but laugh as mom tries to get Chloe's attention from the field by calling out to her and waving her arms around like a mad-woman.
It's embarrassing, if you ask me. It's probably even more embarrassing for her. She's just trying to play the game while mom over here, her grandma, is trying so hard to get Chloe to look in our direction so she can get a good picture of her to keep on her phone and to probably upload to facebook.
That's my mother for you.
Fawning over Chloe and everything she does.
I don't know who's child she is.
She's still really into art, which I don't think is bad because art is amazing.
But she wants to do everything. She wants to play soccer, take dance classes, try out some gymnastics because why not, and when she's old enough and I'll actually let her...sky diving...which is really random if you ask me.
But apparently, she saw it on tv.
And by that...I mean she watched an episode of Spongebob with them doing some sky-diving, and now she wants to do it too.
And let me tell you, the thought of having her, my daughter, jumping out of a moving airplane...completely terrifies me!
Kids and their imaginations...
It's scary.
"Kim. Get Chloe to look over so I can take a picture," mom insists as she nudges my shoulder. I shake my head.
"Mom. She's trying to play the game, just let her." I try telling her. She shakes her head.
"No offense Kim, but non of those kids are really doing anything. The coaches are doing most of the work." mom comments. I shake my head.
"Well what did you expect? She's 6 and she just started. Most of them just started. Give them a second." I tell her. She shakes her head.
"Back in my day...even when you were her age...we did things for ourselves. Now it's all about protecting and babying children as much as possible." mom mumbles. I can only shake my head.
"Now now, honey. Chloe's just a little girl, we don't want to see her get hurt, now do we?" dad says to mom with his eyebrow raised. Mom sighs and shakes her head.
"I guess you're right...oh! Chloe! Hold that position so I can take a photo!" mom hollars when Chloe steals the ball from a kid on the opposite team.
"No! Chloe! Go for it!" I yell to her when I notice her actually freezing. She's going to lose the ball at this point.
"No! Stay!"
"Move, Chloe! Run!" I holler at her. She shakes it off as she does start running down the field with the ball. Mom groans and puts her phone down as Chloe makes her way down the field.
"What was that for?" she asks me.
"She's in the middle of a game, mom," I remind her. She huffs as she sits back down.
I wouldn't be surprised if other people who are also sitting on the bleachers with us are looking at us like we're completely weird. I wouldn't blame them. Mom can be really picky when she wants to take photos and when she doesn't. Especially when it comes to Chloe. Something about that they have to look perfect so she can be one of those overbearing grandmothers on facebook.
Well.
I call it overbearing.
She calls it grandmother pride or something like that.
