MADMAX part 1
_________________________Jessica had spent the last two hours staring at arcade screens watching Max play games. Just when she would understand the game, Max would move on to the next machine.
Jessica realised that Max was spending a while on a specific game with a determined look on her face.
"Why do you like Dig Dug so much?"
"I don't like it necessarily, but I had the high score in California, so I want to have it here."
A couple of seconds later Max cheered in victory when she had gotten a mind-blowing score of 751,300 points knocking Dustin off of the top spot.
Jessica gave her two quarters as a reward congratulating her. She looked around the small arcade thinking how crowded it was going to be later in the day when the rush came in.
When she locked eyes with a creepy employee whose name-tag said 'Keith' she grew uncomfortable.
Trying to avoid his stare, she glanced down at her watch, her eyes growing huge, seeing that they should've been home a couple of minutes ago.
"Max, we're late." She exclaimed while running out of the arcade.
Driving back home with Max in the passenger's seat of her dad's car, a pit formed in her stomach, dreading what was going to happen as soon as they arrived home.

The pair of sisters calmly entered the house hoping not to be noticed by a certain adult. Neil Hargrove was also acting calm, trying to not alarm Susan as to what he was about to do.
Jessica and Max made their way to their shared bedroom. Right as they were about to head in, Neil stood in front of the door blocking the way.
"Why are you late?" The legal father of the two questioned.
"Max go into our room. I'll meet you there."
"Jessica, I'm not going to leave yo-"
"Go."
Max retreated into the shared bedroom with her head down thinking about what was going on outside the door.
"I got caught up watching her play games."
The answer that Jessica had given Neil apparently wasn't the one that he wanted. He pushed Jessica back into the wall forcefully, "What did we talk about?"
"Time management and respect."
"Great, so your little brain is working. Look at me."
Tears welled in her eyes as she forced herself to look up from the floor.
"You're a disgrace to this family, you know that right? Aw, are you going to cry about it?" Her father mocked.
"No sir," she responded quietly looking anywhere else but his eyes.
"I can't hear you!" he shouted slamming her against the wall again.
"No, sir."
"Good."
Neil let go of her collar and backed away before slapping her twice.
"Maybe that knocked some sense into you."
Jessica ran back into her room closing the door and collapsing on the floor. Silent tears fell from her eyes as Max hugged her letting her know that she would be right back.
Max quietly went and got ice for Jessica's face and some chocolate for her troubles. She held the ice pack to Jessica's cheek and sadly smiled at her older sister.
"Well, who would I be if I wasn't starting at a new school with a couple of bruises?"
