Suzie, Do You Copy?
_________________________"You're positive that you want to take them this soon?" Jessica asked Tommy, worried that it would be too much for him to handle.
Tommy curtly nodded his head, annoyed at the fact that Jessica didn't trust him with his own kids.
The deal was that Jessica would take the kids for a couple of weeks, in the beginning, to make sure they responded well with her milk and to give Tommy time to read up on parenting.
It was taking a toll on Jessica as she needed to pump milk for her kids continually so that they could go with Tommy but nether the less she stocked up for him.
It was her first time that she was going to hand off the babies to Tommy. Though she didn't want to give Tommy them, in fear that he hadn't read the baby books she had given him weeks earlier, she gave him their stuff.
Jessica had finally gone through everything with Tommy to make sure that he was up to date with their sleeping patterns and eating habits. Once Tommy had left Jessica took a long nap to rejuvenate from the countless times she woke up the past few weeks.
After her nap, Jessica decided to take a trip to Scoops Ahoy to check up on her friends and get the babies out of her mind. Once she had driven there, she found Steve loudly talking to some costumers about how he was earning a working man's wage.
Jessica walked past the two girls laughing at how hard Steve was trying. She stuck her foot out a tiny bit and made one of them stumble.
"Need something?" Jessica asked when the girl turned to glare at her.
When Jessica made it to the counter she saw Robin showing Steve how many times he had blown his shot.
"You are oh-for-six, Popeye. I keep telling you that you should go for Jessica. You would get at least one on the 'you rule' side." Robin reasoned.
"And I keep telling you that it isn't like that," Steve argued back.
"You know that means you suck."
"Yep, I can read." Steve was soon growing annoyed at his co-worker.
"Hmm, can you though," Jessica questioned as she joined the conversation.
"Hey, where are the little ones?" Robin asked as walked around the back counter to greeted Jessica with a hug.
"With Tommy this week."
The two ice-cream workers could tell that Jessica was tense about the situation. Her fingers were fiddling with the bottom of her shirt, one of her nervous habits, and her jaw was clenched.
Steve shared a look with Robin and began the disagreement up again to keep Jessica's spirits up.
"It's this stupid hat. I am telling you, it is totally blowing my best feature." Steve whined, watching the two girls walk back to the break room.
"Hmm, not true. It's your eyes." Jessica stated as she leaned on the divider.
"Yeah, company policy is a real drag." Robin rolled her eyes, ignoring her friend's shameless natural flirty personality. "You know, it's a crazy idea, but have you considered telling the truth?" Robin looked up and shrugged at her friends.
"Oh, you mean, that I couldn't even get into Tech and my douchebag dad's trying to teach me a lesson, I make three bucks an hour, and I have no future? That truth?" Steve leaned forward on the counter towards Robin.
Jessica was watching the exchange of her two friends when something clicked in her head. Her mouth fell open as she realised that it would break Steve's heart. He was unintentionally flirting with Robin.
"Hey, twelve o'clock." Robin pointed behind Steve, pulling Jessica out of her thoughts.
"Oh, shit. Oh, shit. Okay... uh... I'm going in. Okay? And you know what? Screw company policy." Steve declared, tossing his hat into the break room.
"Oh, my God, you're a whole new man." Robin teased back.
"Right, ooh." Steve did a small dance making Jessica laugh at his goofiness and how awkward the next encounter was going to be.
"Ahoy, ladies! Didn't see you there. Would you like to set sail on this ocean of flavour with me? I'll be your captain. I'm Steve Harrington." Steve's words faded into the background as Jessica turned to talk to Robin.
Robin's face grew disgusted with how Steve was acting and turned around, already marking another tally on the 'you suck' side.
"I think Steve likes you." Jessica quietly told Robin.
Robin burst out laughing at her best friend's comment. Jessica just stood there, waiting for her to calm down and listen to her reasoning.
"I'm telling you, he might not even notice, but he's flirting with you."
"Oh, and you would know all about flirting, huh." Robin fired back, raising her eyebrows.
"Okay, what's that supposed to mean." Jessica crossed her arms.
"Come on, don't act stupid now." Robin shook her head. "Oh, your hair isn't your best feature. It's your eyes." Robin pitched her voice up higher and battled her eyelashes like crazy.
"Fuck you," Jessica mumbled while chuckling and shaking her head.
The two girls soon stopped laughing and went back to the divider.
"You know that he doesn't stop talking about you, right?" Robin mumbled to Jessica, who's eyes were admiring the boy in front of her.
"Yeah, he's just worried about me that's all" Jessica turned to Robin with a sad smile.
Jessica stayed with her friends while they closed the stores a couple of hours later and talked with them.
They told her that she should come back tomorrow after her library shift to help out. Jessica agreed and made her way out the door with a sense of purpose.
Now that the twins were at Tommy's, she had two others to look after, and she couldn't wait.
