The Bite part 3
____________________________"The floor's disgusting," Robin retorted after Steve leaned against the stall.
"Yeah, well, I already got a bunch of blood and puke on my shirt, so what do you think?" Steve wasn't making eye contact with Jessica at this point, scared of rejection.
"About?" Robin cocked her head to the side.
"This girl."
"She sounds awesome." Robin slightly nudged Jessica's knees with hers.
"She is awesome. And what about the guy?" Steve didn't hesitate to answer.
"I think he's on drugs, and he's not thinking straight." Though Robin desperately wanted Steve to confess his feelings for Jessica, she knew that it would all crash down if Steve wasn't in the right mindset.
"Really? Cause I think he's thinking a lot more clearly than usual." Steve glanced over at Jessica to gauge her reaction to everything.
Jessica was keeping a blank face and staring at a tile on the floor.
"He's not." Robin takes a while to collect her thoughts and find a way to handle the situation. "Look, he barely knows this girl. And if he did know her, like really know her life and how messed up it's been, I'm not so sure he'd stay to help."
"No, that's not true. No way is that true." Steve suddenly realised how much he needed Robin's approval and shifted so he was sitting up straighter.
"Listen to me, Steve. It's shocked me to my core, but I like you. I really like you. But I'm not like your other friends. And I'm not like Nancy Wheeler. I protect the ones I care about." Robin set her hand on the floor and held Jessica's.
"Robin, trust me. I won't leave her."
"She didn't know you during your douchebag phase, Steve. Do you remember what I said about Click's class? About me being jealous and, like, obsessed? Robin was trying to steady her breath from what she was about to do.
Steve nodded his head, "Yeah."
"It isn't because I had a crush on you. It's because she wouldn't stop staring at you." Robin kept her eyes locked on his to gauge how he took the news.
"Mrs. Click?" Steve shook his head in confusion.
"Tammy Thompson. I wanted her to look at me. But, she couldn't pull her eyes away from you and your stupid hair. And I didn't understand, because you would get bagel crumbs all over the floor. And you asked dumb questions. And you were a douchebag. And, and you didn't even like her and I would go home and just scream into my pillow." Robin held back the tears that were threatening to fall.
