The group decided to walk back to the car on the railroad tracks. Steve didn't want to risk anyone getting hurt so against what Jessica had said earlier, he was going to take them all home.
"You're positive that was Dart?" Lucas asked Dustin, unsure about anything that had just happened.
"Yes. He had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt."
"He was tiny two days ago." Max gave her input not believing the boy.
"Well, he's molted three times already."
"Malted?" Steve asked, curious as to how a milkshake had anything to do with Dart.
"Molted." Dustin enunciated the 'o' sound. "Shed his skin to make room for growth like hornworms."
"Horndogs?" Jessica was barely even listening to the conversation, too focused on the fact that she didn't want to throw up again.
"Hornworms, my god, are you even listening?"
"To tell you the truth, no."
"When's he gonna molt again?" Max asked, not caring that Jessica wasn't listening.
"It's gotta be soon. When he does, he'll be fully grown, or close to it. And so will his friends" Dustin reasoned.
"Yeah, and he's gonna eat a lot more than just cats."
"Wait, a cat? Dart ate a cat?" Lucas stopped walking, focusing on what Steve had just said.
"No, what? No." Dustin looked panicked as he didn't want his friend to know he had kept the monster.
"What are you talking about? He ate Mews." Steve turned back around, looking at Dustin.
"Mews? Who's Mews?" Max didn't know what was going on anymore.
"It's Dustin's cat."
"That was his name?" Jessica was now leaning on Steve, feeling light-headed.
"Steve!" Dustin yelled, feeling betrayed by a new friend.
"I knew it! You kept him!" Lucas yelled.
Everything else they were saying was all fuzzy to Jessica. Her brain felt like it was going to explode at any moment. All she heard was something about the rule of law and Steve asking her if she was alright.
