How Many?

Jessica Hargrove was about fifteen weeks along in her pregnancy, so it was time to get her first ultrasound. They were supposed to get it earlier, but there were some mix-ups at the hospital.

Jessica had invited Tommy to come and "meet" their kid, but he had turned down the offer due to already having plans to go down to the lake and claimed he couldn't reschedule it.

Jessica clearly knew that he was lying seeing that it was January and currently snowing outside though she decided to put it behind her and reminded herself that he promised to show up at the actual birth.

Billy, Susan and Max came with her to the hospital for support. After waiting for about ten minutes, the family went into the hospital room and Jessica laid down on the bed waiting for the doctor.

"If it's a boy what about Adrien? And for a girl Ann?" Max suggested for baby names.

"Max, it's too early to tell the baby's gender." Jessica chucked at her younger sister.

"What about Alexander for a boy?" Billy suggested.

Jessica thought about it for a little bit, "I like that, but I have to ask Tommy cause whether I like it or not, he should have a say."

The doctor came in at that moment and introduced himself.

"Hello, I'm going to be your doctor thought all of this, my name is Shawn Williams. Oh, it's a busy busy room I see. A couple of family members excited to see the baby." He enthused while putting gloves on and turning on the ultrasound machine.

"Alright, so we have the brother, sister, and mom here?"

Jessica just nodded, not wanting to correct the doctor that it was her step-mom as she had thought about it a lot. Though Jessica didn't want her father to remarry, it was perfect that he had married Susan.

Jessica gained a sister and friend that day and was thankful for Max being in her life. She also knew that Susan wanted to help her out as much as she could, and it helped Jessica feel a little bit better about the situation.

"Perfect, I'm just going to have you lift up your shirt to expose your stomach so I can starting making sure the baby is doing okay with my transducer." Doctor Williams explained.

Jessica lifted her shirt and reached for Billy's hand, bracing herself for the gel to be placed on her stomach. She took a sharp breath as the gel was freezing on her warm skin.

"Sorry about that, it'll turn warmer with time. Am I right to assume that is your first pregnancy?" Doctor Williams asked.

"Yeah, it's my first time."

He began to spread the gel around her stomach with the transducer to get an image.

"Alright, there's the baby's head," Doctor Williams pointed to the screen, "and there are the feet."

Max leaned forward in her chair to get a better look. Jessica was amazed at what was happening in her body at the moment. She shared a look with Susan and Max once they had looked at the baby as Billy rubbed her arm in comfort.

"And there is the other baby's head down by the first one's feet."

This had Jessica's head whip around back to the screen. She watched as the doctor pointed out where the second baby's head and feet were.

"Well, congratulations, you're having twins. Is this a shock to you, or is there a history of twins in your family or the father's?" Doctor Williams questioned Jessica.

"We're twins." Jessica lazily motioned to Billy standing next to her, still trying to process the whole thing.

Suddenly Max shot up from her seat, "Oh my gosh twins! That's so exciting! Now you don't have to only choose one name." Max was jumping around the room.

The doctor finished up with checking the babies health status and printed off a photo of the twins for Jessica to take home.

The whole way home Max kept talking about how excited she was to become an aunt while Jessica thought about the financial side to having twins.

She had to admit she was happy she was having twins but the thought of paying for two of everything freaked her out.
