E Pluribus Unum part 3

Guards surrounded the trio and lifted them, so they were back to the sitting position. The main guard walked over to Steve's side and squatted down, "Try telling the truth this time, yes? It will make your visit with Dr. Zharkov less painful."

Jessica wondered what types of questions he wasn't being truthful on to get him that beat up. She was ripped from her thoughts when she saw the guard's hand go up to touch Steve's face.

"Stop touching him!" She shouted and glared at the guard.

He straightened up and moved in front of her, "And you," he patted her cheek, "Just sit there and look pretty."

"Not that hard for you," Steve mumbled.

"Not helping," Jessica whispered back.

The guard nodded his head to the supposed doctor to let him know he was ready. The doctor came over with a giant syringe with a blue liquid in the capsule.

"Wait a second. Hold on. Okay! Wait, wait, wait! What is that thing?" Steve shouted at the creepy doctor.

"It will help you talk," He simply replied with a mysterious glint in his eye.

Jessica could barely hear what Steve yelled before the needle went into the side of his jaw. She winced at how big the needle was and how long it was taking for all the liquid to drain.

The doctor went back to his cart in order to fill the capsule back up, Jessica felt dizzy just looking at the weird liquid and soon her eyes began to close.

Memories from when she was younger and would go to the beach with her mother and Billy flashed quickly through her head. The memory of sitting in the bleachers cheering Billy on stayed longer while she took in that her dad was yelling at him.

Dinner at the dining room tables was soon always interrupted by their dad confronting their mom in front of them about a topic they knew nothing about at that age.

Sitting next to Billy on the floor while he was talking on the phone with their mom. She remembered his eyes when he turned to tell her that their mom was leaving them.

Meeting Max for the first time, reminded her of that night when she stayed in Billy's room trying to calm him down so their father wouldn't hear him. She admitted to him that she liked having a younger sister.
