Tis' Thursday, my dudesssss.
-Recap-
"But the lunch detention wasn't my fault." Isaac quickly pipes up. "The twins framed me. So we got payback by getting Aiden suspended."
"As long as you got payback." Derek nods before turning to me and Hunter. "You guys ready to go?"
"As ready as we'll ever be." I bounce Hunter and he giggles.
(Lyrica's P.O.V.)
"Isaac, you and Cora are alone here for a few. No funny business and if she doesn't want to talk to you, leave her alone. Got it?" Derek says to Isaac, giving him a stern look.
"Of course, Dad." Isaac chuckles, holding his hands up in mock surrender.
"Behave, both of you." I walk in between them. "We're leaving. I love you." I kiss Isaac on the forehead and grab my purse, carrying Hunter out to the Camaro.
I buckle Hunter in the backseat and climb into the passenger seat. As I'm fastening my seatbelt, Derek comes out of the house and enters the car.
"You better not have traumatized our son." I jokingly glare at Derek.
"Calm down, I didn't." He chuckles, starting the car. "Cora just got out of the shower so I informed her on where we're going."
"Ah, I see." I nod.
"Lyrie?"
I hum to let Derek know I'm listening.
"What are you gonna do if Noah is there?"
"Are you saying Stiles lied to me about my biological father, who is the sheriff, not being at the station where he works, which just so happens to be where we're currently heading to get paperwork for my younger brother, who was presumed dead, and actually isn't, and now has to be put under legal custody of us because he can't be a normal kid without it, but we're trying to avoid our biological father so he doesn't fight us for custody?"
Derek is silent through my entire rant and when I finish, he glances at me, a small smile painted on his lips.
"You feel better?" He chuckles.
"Shut up." I mutter, sinking down in my seat.
"You didn't answer my question."
"Yes, I feel better!" I exclaim, throwing my hands up. "There, you happy?"
"You always get so grumpy after your spaz rants." Derek chuckles again.
"Bite me, Derek."
"Don't test me, Lyrica. I will."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mr. and Mrs. Hale. What can I do for you?" Jordan Parrish, the deputy behind the counter asks as soon as we enter the surprisingly empty station.
"Hi, Deputy Parrish." I greet the male. "We need to get some custody papers sorted out for my younger brother, here." (I have no clue how real custody stuff works. So we're just gonna pretend they need approval from the cops or whatever.)
"Of course." Parrish smiles and turns around, grabbing a small folder of papers. He hands it to Derek. "Take these to the Sheriff and he'll get you sorted out. He's in his office."
"I didn't think the Sheriff would be in at this time. I mean, shouldn't he be having dinner at home with his son right about now?" I ask, masking my panic.
"His son brought him in dinner about half an hour ago. I'm sure they're done by now. You know where his office is, right?"
"Yes. Thanks." Derek leads me and Hunter away from the front desk. After we round the corner, he stops to look at me. "Do you still want to do this right now? We can come another time."
"As much as I'd love to, it's gonna be hard to find a chance like this again and we need to get Hunter in school as soon as possible." I sigh.
"Alright. Come on." We walk the rest of the way to the office and I stiffly knock on the closed door. Almost instantly, the door swings open to reveal Stiles.
"Lyrica, Derek. Hi." He nervously laughs, knowing he's in deep shit.
"Hi, Stiles." I give him a sickly sweet smile. "Is your father in?"
"Yeah, yep. Yes, he is." Stiles grins for a second before moving to the side and allowing us to enter.
"Lyrica, Derek. How can I help you?" Noah stands to greet us and Stiles closes the door behind us.
"We need to get some custody papers filled out." Derek sharply replies, holding out the folder to the sheriff.
"Of course." Noah nods and starts pulling papers from the folder. "You guys can have a seat. It's a lot of signing and reading."
Stiles sits in a chair as far from us as possible and Derek and I sit directly in front of Noah's desk. Hunter doesn't hesitate to climb up into Derek's lap, and Derek wraps an arm around his middle to keep the small boy from falling.
"So, we're gonna start by having you fill out the basics. Name, weight, biological parents, stuff like that." Noah hands over the paper with a smile, and his eyes land on Hunter as Derek takes the clipboard. "Aw, he's a cutie. What's his name?"
"Hunter." Derek answers the question with no emotion in his voice.
"O-Oh." Noah replies, smile falling as he starts connecting the dots. "How old is he?"
"11." I give a stern look at my biological father. "Yes, he's the Hunter you think he is."
"I-I thought he was gone?" Noah stares at Hunter with wide eyes.
"Guess not." I shrug. "It doesn't matter to you, anyway. All you are to him is the friendly neighborhood sheriff."
"Were you ever going to tell me?" I can't help but smirk at how angry he is.
"If we're being honest, probably not. Hunter doesn't need to be hurt the way I was."
"So he's just gonna grow up without a father figure?"
"Dad." Stiles butts in. "He's got Derek. He's fine."
"Yeah, like I'm gonna agree to him helping raise my son." Noah scoffs. "It's bad enough my daughter is married to him."
"You don't have to. He's not your son." I chuckle. "And I'm not your daughter. You lost the right to call us that a long time ago."
"You know I can deem Derek unfit and you'll lose custody."
"Go ahead. I'll make sure my baby brother knows that his biological father kept him from his family because he was selfish and didn't want him to be with his brother and father figure."
It's silent for a moment as Noah and I glare at each other, until he finally gives in with a sigh.
"Can I at least visit him?" He asks.
"I'll consider it." I shrug. "Now can we please finish the paperwork? Hunter needs to be enrolled in school and our son is waiting for us at home."
"Yeah, alright."
