Hello! It's finally the weekend and I got some free time, so it's also update time! This chapter isn't very eventful, but I promise there's more eventful ones coming. I just haven't gotten as much time to write as I used to. My first football game is next Friday, but I'll see if I can get some writing done. Also, I have a couple other stories written in Google Docs. I'm planning on posting one of them soon. Here's the options... Liam's Sister, a Scott McCall fanfic, Jackalyn Phoenix Lightwood, an Alec Lightwood fanfic, and an unnamed BTS Jungkook fanfic. Comment on which one I should post! Anyway, enough of my rambling. Enjoy the chapter!
-Recap-
"You're welcome, Mrs. Hale." Scott says. "Well, Stiles, I think we should be heading home."
"Of course, Boys." I say. "Have a good night."
(Lyrica's P.O.V.)
"Thanks, you too." Scott says before we all leave the school, Derek practically carrying Isaac.
"Mom?" Isaac asks when we get to the car. "Can you sit with me?"
"Of course. Let me just put your stuff in the trunk." I say, popping the trunk open. I quickly throw his stuff in before climbing in beside Isaac.
"Alright, let's hit the road." I nod. Derek starts the car and pulls out of the parking lot, heading straight towards the hospital.
"Mom, do you think I'm gonna have to get surgery?" Isaac whimpers, looking up at me. I wrap my arms around him and he rests his head on my shoulder.
"I'm honestly not sure, Buddy." I sigh. "But no matter what, I'll be right by your side the entire time. I'm sure Derek will too."
"Of course, Isaac. You won't ever be alone as long as we're alive." Derek says, making Isaac smile. We mindlessly talk for the rest of the car ride until we reach the hospital. We carefully help him out of the car and into the hospital. As soon as we enter, a woman with tan skin and black, curly hair walks up to us.
"You guys are the Hales, right? I'm Melissa McCall." She says.
"Yeah, that's us. Thank you so much for helping us." I say as Isaac leans on Derek.
"Oh, it's no problem. I'm just glad that Scott told me. Here, let me grab a wheelchair." She chuckles, seeing Derek practically holding Isaac in his arms.
She leaves and comes back a minute later with a wheelchair. We carefully sit Isaac in it and Melissa leads us to an examination room. We easily move him onto the table and Melissa props his leg up. She quickly does a small exam on his ankle before turning to us.
"Okay, it doesn't look like he broke his ankle. There's essentially, two possibilities. He could have dislocated it, which is easily fixed with a brace. But if he sprained it, there's not much we can do except give him crutches. I'll have the doctor come in and look. He'll have to do an X-Ray."
"Okay. Thank you, Melissa." I say.
"You're welcome." She says before walking out.
"Am I gonna be able to play lacrosse?" Isaac asks, looking up at me and Derek with teary eyes.
"I'm not sure, Bud." Derek says. "We're just gonna have to wait and see."
"What if I can't play? What am I gonna do if Coach kicks me off the team?" He asks.
"Well for starters, Coach isn't gonna kick you off the team."
"How do you know that?"
"Because I won't let him." Derek shrugs. "If he tries to kick you from the team, I'll rip his head off."
Isaac laughs, making us smile. "Thanks, Der."
Just then, a man in a doctor's uniform walks in.
"Hi, I'm Doctor Yaw. So what exactly happened to your ankle?" He says.
"Uh, I was at Lacrosse practice. A couple kids knocked me over and I landed on my ankle wrong." Isaac says, not knowing that we were there.
"Okay. Well I'm sure Ms. McCall already told you, but there's only really a couple things that could have happened. Since it wasn't a clean break. You could have badly sprained your ankle, which we could fix by examining and possibly giving you a light brace. Or the bones in your foot and ankle could have collided and essentially popped out of socket. If that is the case, you're going to need surgery in order for it to heal correctly." He says.
"Will I be able to play Lacrosse?" Isaac asks.
"Well that depends." Doctor Yaw says. "If you have to get surgery, you wouldn't be able to play at all this season. After that, it would be determined by how physical therapy goes. If it's sprained, you can play for the latter part of the season. But even then, you would still have to wear the brace to keep from injuring yourself further. An X-Ray will determine which it is."
"How long will the X-Ray take?" Isaac asks.
"Just a few minutes. Your parents will have to leave the room during it, though. That way nothing interferes."
"Okay." Isaac mutters.
"We'll be right outside." I say reassuringly.
"As soon as it's done, we'll come right back in, okay?" Derek says.
"Okay." Isaac says.
Derek and I walk out of the room, letting the doctor do his job.
"I think, after we get Isaac home and everything, I'm gonna go talk to Scott." Derek says, just loud enough for me to hear.
"And by 'talk', you mean threaten?" I giggle, looking at him.
"Obviously." He chuckles.
"Mrs. Hale?" A feminine voice says. I look to my left and see Lydia there, giving me a confused look.
"Hi, Lydia. What are you doing here?" I ask, gesturing for her to come over. She walks up, giving Derek a weary look.
"I'm here for Jackson. He got hurt during Lacrosse practice. What are you doing here?" She replies.
"We're here with Isaac. He got hurt during Lacrosse practice, too. Messed up his ankle."
"Well that's terrible." She says, still looking at Derek wearily. "Wait, I've seen your face somewhere."
"I'm Derek Hale." He says, no trace of joy or happiness in his features.
"Oh!" She says. "I must have been reading an article about your house fire."
"Lydia!" A voice calls, making Lydia turn around.
"Gotta go." Lydia says before running off. I sigh and take a hold of Derek's hand, entwining our fingers.
"It wasn't your fault." I whisper. He doesn't get to respond, because the door to Isaac's room opens. Doctor Yaw faces us with a smile.
"Good news." He says. "Isaac won't be needing surgery. I'll have Ms. McCall come back in to get him fitted with a brace. Keep it iced, it should help with the swelling. And I'll have Nurse McCall also bring some pain killers. Nothing too strong, just to use when it gets too bad."
"Thank you so much." I grin.
"You're quite welcome. Isaac is a wonderful kid." He says before walking away. We walk into the room, seeing Isaac on his phone.
"Guess what?" I say, getting Isaac's attention.
"What?" He asks, turning his phone off.
"You just sprained your ankle. You can still play lacrosse." Derek replies.
"Oh thank God." Isaac sighs.
Edit: May 8, 2020. The whole medical scene is extremely crappily explained. But Isaac has a high ankle sprain, essentially.
