"The worst thing is watching someone drown and not being able to convince them that they can save themselves by just standing up..."

People say things like that all the time, but they never actually say how to stand up.

If they ever do, you're already too far beneath the surface to still hear them.

Their faces become a blur the deeper you fall and soon you can't hear their voices at all.

It's scary as you watch them get further and further away.

You feel like they're leaving you. In actual fact, they're still there. They never went anywhere.

You're the one leaving them...

If they reach out their hand to save you, you could just end up pulling them down too.

It's why you always feel so alone.

You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely isolated.

As you drown, it hard to breathe.

You're gasping for breath, but don't feel it taking effect.

We each have our own personal oxygen, but it's poisoned.

Oxygen in the form of self harm... It's deadly, yet you still feel like you need it so survive.

You don't.

Eventually it will seep into your system and destroy you.

Killing you slowly, yet surely...

It's not the right option, not at all.

There are other ways to get your head above the water without it poisoning you and without pulling anyone down with you.

Music.

It's like having someone there, holding your hand through the pain.

Understanding how you're feeling and helping you.

Yet you're unable to pull them down too.

Depression's like drowning, but you can stand up.
