Just as Adam turned the corner he felt the flood of tears break through and spill onto his cheeks. He had held them in for so long it felt as though he was going to burst. The one person he wanted to comfort him was the one person who caused all his pain. And that was perhaps the most heart-wrenching bit.

Pulling out his phone from his pocket he phoned Sophia, clearing his throat and l hoping she wouldn't hear his trembling voice through the phone.

"Hey! What's up?" Sophia's voice came through the phone.

"Soph... Can we hang out tonight?" Adam said softly, but Sophia stayed silent for a few excruciating seconds. She knew Adam all too well.

"Oh honey... Of course we can... We'll make it a wine night!" She said reassuringly.

"Tequila!" Adam said, now sniffling clearly through the phone.

"Oh no... That bad, eh?" Sophia said empathetically with a disappointed sigh?

"Yeah." He said as he began to sob, losing all sense of composure.

"Stay right where you are, I'm coming to get you, and I'm calling reinforcements." She said as she hung up the phone leaving.

Adam sank to the hard wet pavement as he continued to sob. He watched as people passed by on the sidewalk, but nobody seemed to notice. This was why he loved the big city. You're never alone, but at the same time, in many ways, you are.

"Hey... Are you okay?" He looked up and saw Dr Kaur looking down at him with an empathetic smile.

"Yeah..." Adam said scrambling to his feet and wiping his tears.

"I know this doesn't make any of this better." Dr Kaur said comfortingly. "But for what it's worth, I've known Dylan since med school. Last year he didn't take part in that stupid bet the guys do. This year he did it for whatever reason and chose you. I don't know why or what he was thinking, but he's not a bad guy."

"Thank's Dr. Kaur... I appreciate it, really, but I don't want to..." Adam trailed off.

"Of course! I'm sorry, I just... I know it's not my business, but talk to him. Hear him out. I know it looks and sounds really bad. Dylan is an idiot at times but he... I think... Just talk to him?" She seemed so genuine, but Adam had no inclination to heed her advice. He nodded politely to her as a car pulled up beside on the curb.

"Get in loser!" Ilya rolled the window down in the passenger seat. "We're going to the liquor store." He said with a wide grin. Adam flashed a pained smile at Dr. Kaur, who comfortingly patted him on the shoulder as they bid each other farewell before he ran to the car, slipping into the backseat.

"Hey bud. You okay?" Ilya asked as Adam put on his seatbelt and let out a sharp exhale, he wanted to lie and say he was okay, but his eyes betrayed him. He began to sob, tears streaming down his face as Ilya stared at him helplessly, going pale in the face.

"He didn't love me!" Adam cried out. "It was all just a game to him. He didn't fucking love me."

Adam sobbed and bawled for the entire ride to the liquor store, in the liquor store, on the ride back to their apartment. He cried and cried until his voice was hoarse and his eyes were red and puffy. Sophie would glance at him through the rear view mirror, gazing sympathetically at the broken boy as he cried himself into a state. Ilya would try to talk to Adam and make light of the situation but it was no use.

"Hey bud, he's not worth it." Ilya attempted to console him only for the sobbing to grow louder.

"Let him cry." Sophia whispered, shooting Ilya a brief pained look. "He needs to let it out, and he'll feel better in the morning."
