"This way my young lord, King is confined in another chamber..."

In French, the King's adviser mentioned.

Upon entering the room, faint opera music welcomed me. The receiving area of the black baronial room was empty yet I noticed a presence inside the bedroom itself.

I stood there quietly, looking around... Versailles remained its grandeur and elegant streak. It's still very aesthetic.

My eyes quickly noted the King's assistant as he gestured that I can finally step inside the bedroom.

I was taken aback as thick smoke hung in the air but quickly realized it wasn't from a cigar but;

"It's sage."

I chuckled and bowed as the old king confirmed my thoughts.

King Arnoux drew a handsome smile on his face. He didn't look sickly but I could tell that the old man needs to retire. He gestured for me to take a seat which I comfortably did. Even though he exuded a very unapproachable air in him and known to be the untouchable royal, he always had a soft spot for me. Even my mother couldn't explain at the time...

People didn't know about it. Even my grandfather.

For how many times, as a child, he secretly asked my mother for me to stay a few weeks, every summer in Versailles. He told me stories of his childhood, spoil me with gold macarons; a lot of fancy French sweets, toys...and calls me 'Dauphin'.

I stopped visiting him when I became an adult...I can only have a glimpse of him whenever we get invited to his royal balls. Today is the first time I personally visited him again after many years.

I settled myself on a chair across his bed where he was carefully assisted.
