"Where in the world are you? I haven't heard from you for a long time, young man! You might want to at least see me."

I sighed, hurled my phone on my side, which is now on speaker mode and held my temples. Everyone's asleep now and I received a call from Elizabeth.

"I'm around Brockenhurst. Something came up."

"Well, I thought before you and  Martina flew to Paris that once you're back we're going to celebrate her graduation? It's been more than a bloody week now isn't it?"

"Mum, please..."

I sighed exasperatedly. 

"I want to speak to her."

I felt the throbbing pain in my head worsening...

"She's asleep mum. Is it possible for you to..."

I was a bit surprised as I noted Martina standing in front of me. She held her hand out and took my phone. My mother is so fond of her and Martina knows that.

I watched her as she held the phone closer and spoke to my mum. She settled on the small table just across the sofa where I was seated. As though my mum can see her, she drew a forced smile on her face...her eyes still swollen from crying.

"Hello Ma'am..."

"Hello darling! How was Paris? Have you thought about which university you're going to attend? Also, call me mummy. You've been reprimanded again. I am not your ma'am!"

Martina chuckled and tears started to well up her eyes once again. She was able to sound composed and not sullen, a complete contrast on how she looks like right now.

"Ah, my apologies m-mummy."

She cast me a glance.

My heart is breaking.

I tried to reach for her hand but she pulled it away.

This could be the most painful punishment that I have experienced from her...

To be openly rejected like this...that even for a simple touch, she denies me.

It hurts.

And it really angers and saddens me at the same time.

Okay. Then maybe I'll just have to impose our set up if that's the only way she can be near me.
