"She lives here..."

I followed the steps of Dianne, the realtor who showed me this cottage where the former governess of the Eccleston household resides. I was told that Martina was taken care of since that night she left me. She was found sitting still on the bench just right across the manor for a whole day and when the residence noticed that her determination to stay and not leave, Martha, the governess who live not so far from there, decided to take her in. I noticed the familiar blue dress that she wore that day. At the open backyard, hanged to dry, fluttering to the wild afternoon wind of the countryside...

I felt my body respond to the energy of her existence. I struggled to hold back the eagerness. All I ever thought about since we got here is her forgiveness and how will I be able to convince her to come back with me to London.

Martha, who was alone at the time we arrived, greeted us in glee. Her face painted with a wry smile yet she warmly took my handshake with both of her quivering hands. Thinking that I made her truly uncomfortable,  I quickly apologized;

"I sincerely apologize for suddenly showing up here...I don't have ill intentio..."

My words trailed off as I noted a few framed photos of mine on a long table, situated at the dainty corner of the comfy cottage.

"Uh-I...I'm..."

Seriously... there are lots of photos...of mine. 😕
