I close my suitcase and take one last look around my New York apartment. I'm going to miss it, don't get me wrong, but a fresh start in a place where people actually know each other, where I can further my career? That's the life I want to live.

"Oh honey, I'm going to miss you so much." My mom walks through the ajar front door, she comes rushing over towards me and grabs my hand. "Promise me you'll be safe."

I roll my eyes and laugh, a defence mechanism when I'm most likely going to cry, side-note : it doesn't work it only makes you cry more.

"Sweetie she's going to be fine." My dad walks through the door. "Call us everyday darling." He turns his attention to me.

"I'm starting a new job remember? I'm not going to have much time."

"Oh don't tell me, you two are wallowing after Olivia already." My brother Simon, who's a year younger than me, walks into the room with a huff.

"We're worried about her safety," Mom crosses her arms, stubbornly. "not wallowing."

Simon ruffles my hair and laughs when I slap his hand away. I didn't spend all that time doing my hair, just for my brother to ruffle it. He proceeds to lean against the island, and cross his arms. "She didn't go through all that training, for you two to start worrying now."

"I guess Agent Olivia Bennett, does have a ring to it," my mom grins "but at least call us as soon as you get to your new apartment."

I nod giving her a sad smile. "I'm going to miss you idiots."

"You don't have to go." My dad suggests with a grin.

"Not going to happen, I have my dream job waiting for me on the other side." I give him a cheesy smile before turning to my brother. "If I come back and find out you've slept with my best friend I'm going to kill the two of you."

Simon gives me a wink. "Can't make any promises."

No he can't, because what he and my best friend, Isabella, don't know is I'm well aware of the friends with benefit situation, they secretly have going on. I get some happiness fucking with them though.

I glance at the clock. "We better get going before I miss my flight."

I give my apartment one last glance, before locking the door on my way out. My parents spent the journey talking about how much they were going to miss me, which was driving me insane and making me even more excited to have a fresh start.

Simon was busy typing on his phone - probably texting Isabella who is also texting me. She had to say goodbye to me last night because she's working today.

We get to the airport a few minutes later. Simon takes my suitcase out of the trunk, and I pull it onto the path beside me. I've already sent most my belongings and my car over to Evergreen, where I'm going to live.

"Call us once you get settled." My dad tells me giving me a small smile and a quick hug.

Mom wipes under her eyes, the tears already falling. I wrap my arms around her. "I'm only a five-hour flight away come visit me any time."

She smiles and nods. "I know, but it wouldn't be me if I wasn't crying."

I laugh, my own eyes becoming watery. "I'm not letting myself cry."

I turn to Simon, who doesn't seem as chatty as before. "And you," I wrap my arms around him "don't cause any trouble or take any girls to my room."

"Oh like you'll know."

"I'm a trained agent remember?" I deadpan. "You really underestimate my skills."

"Oh thank god, I made it!" An out of breath voice puffs from behind me.

I turn around to see Isabella standing behind me.

"Your here!" I shriek, running over to her and wrapping my arms around her. "I thought you were working."

"I was but I decided fuck the job, my bestie needed a proper send off," she grins before moving to whisper in my ear. "and to remind you one last time, to tell me about whatever hot boy is lucky to have you next."

I laugh. "I think I'm going to focus on work."

She shrugs. "Wait until you get there, I'm sure someone will change your mind eventually." She steps back, and I don't miss the worried look she throws at my brother.

I smile to myself, I know he'll be fine. She'll take care of all of them.

I glance at my phone and grab the handle of my suitcase. "I really need to go now or I'll miss my flight. I love you guys, don't do anything I wouldn't do."

"In that case the sky is the limit." Dad grins.

I fight back the tears when I look back at them one last time, before walking into the airport. Once I've checked in my suitcase all my sadness is gone, instead replaced with apprehension and an excited feeling. I'm finally getting my dream job.

I sleep for most of the flight and five hours later, the plane lands in Evergreens airport, which is smaller than the one I just departed from. Thankfully the movers left my car, which was a Range Rover, that actually happens to be required for my job, in the airport parking lot.

The sun was beaming down when I walked through the front doors of the airport. I found my car pretty quickly, thanks to the message I received during the flight telling me the parking bay.

The first place I had to go was the building I now work in, to pick up my essentials for starting work. I've only been to Evergreen twice, when I was getting interviewed and then searching for apartments but from what I've researched it's a town, where everyone knows everyone. It's not what people would call small, but for a New York girl like me it is, but it's the perfect size for me.

I walk into the building, which was a good size. A middle-aged women with a blonde pixie cut walks up to me a huge grin on her face.

"I'm guessing your Olivia Bennett?" She asks.

I nod. "That's me."

"Great." She extends her hand, which I take. "I'm Clare, I'm the supervisor in the area you'll be working. I know you've been here before, but I'll give you a quick tour."

I smile. "That'd be amazing."

Twenty minutes later, Clare has given me the grand tour of the building. I'm mainly going to be situated on the third floor, and I even have my own office with my partner, who I've yet to meet.

"Now that I've shown you the ins and outs of this place, let's get you ready for your first shift." She grins.

The first thing she hands me is my badge and my uniform, which consists of army tracksuits and a grey T-shirt, with my initials O.B and E.G.P.D for Evergreen Police Department, hand sewn on in black. "You're officially one of us, welcome to the family." She grins. The next thing she does is show me the belt you wrap around your waist, that also contains my gun, a walkie-talkie and a few other protective devices. I take it off her with a grin. "Put it on and attach your badge, show them who's boss!"

I do as she says. "I actually can't believe this is happening."

She leans against the wall and gives me a proud smile. "I can already tell your one of the good ones." She shifts slightly. "Ao I know you've been briefed already but I'll just clarify. So your starting tomorrow, you are required to wear your uniform everyday, some days will be busy and some will be quiet."

"You are a very special agent so you won't be stuck doing traffic duty, hence the different uniform as you are trained for the harder jobs with murders, suspicious deaths, drug dealers and the list goes on."

"In this small town?" I ask. "There couldn't be that much going on."

She nods. "This area not much, the other areas you cover will definitely keep you busy. Never mind your partner."

"Oh yeah, I haven't actually met my partner yet. I don't even know their name."

She grins. "Very special Agent Williams."

Just then her phone starts ringing. "I better take this, I'll see you tomorrow."

I grin. "Can't wait!"
