I had promised myself the night before that I would not under any circumstances allow Edward Cullen to dazzle me again. I wouldn't look at him as anything more than a pretty boy. A pretty boy with an ugly heart.

The promise I had made myself definitely worked better in theory rather then in practice. The second I sat down in my lab stool and felt Edwards eyes burn into me my blood boiled.

I refused to say hello or even to give him a curious glance. Edward Cullen was not going to dazzle me. I would not be like every other girl at this school and get myself rejected. I would not allow myself to have the humiliation of a little school girl crush on Edward Cullen.

The class chattered, and every other set of lab partners looked to be enjoying themselves before class starts. I sat in silence, stubbornly watching the dirty green chalk bored, as Edward's eyes stayed on me. I wanted to peer up at him. I wanted to see if his glare really looked as hateful as it felt. I wasn't sure if I was just imagining it or not.

My eyes landed on Mr. Banner. He was standing up in front of the classroom now writing something about microscopes on the bored.

"Today will be our first lab with your partner."

I quickly spaced out as soon as I heard what the lab was. Identifying mitosis in an onion root cell. I had done basically the same course back in Arizona last year and although I'm not the best student, I still got one of the top marks in biology. It was something I was good at.

After what seemed like an impossibly long and in depth explanation of the simple lab, Banner let us go off on our own to 'Explore the world of the onion root cell.'

Silently, and very carefully, I put the first onion root slide into the microscope between Edward and I. I peered through the lenses and took a second to make the proper adjustments with the knobs. Anaphase.

"Anaphase." I said, still not looking at Edward. Instead, I scribbled it down on my sheet. He took a look for himself before agreeing, and his tone was almost surprised.

"Anaphase."

I didn't know why he sounded slightly surprised at first, but then I looked up to see the struggle the class seemed to be having. I hadn't struggled with it, after all it was basic use of the microscope. I had learned this years ago.

Disregarding his tone, I swapped out the next slide and took another look. It didn't take more than a second for me to identify the stage.

"Prophase."

Once again, Edward looked for himself as I scribbled down the answer.

"Prophase." He agreed once again. I felt his eyes on me, still not sure if they were as spiteful as I imagined them to be.

I carefully changed the slides again as I thought to myself.

Those eyes are always spiteful, even without a good cause. It really isn't fair. He doesn't know me and he's hardly even tried to speak to me before. He just... watches me like I'm some monster.

I frowned as I tried to push my thoughts out of my head.

Telophase.

"Telophase."

Again, Edward took a look for himself. Then, almost reluctantly, he agreed.

"Edward, I know that you're smart but please, make sure Bella is getting an equal opportunity to identify the cell and use the microscope." Banner said as he walked by, glancing quickly at the two of us. I glared. I had identified three of them already.
