The nightmares had only gotten worse after that. It had been a week since my little motorcycle crash, and I had successfully managed to keep my injury a secret from Charlie. He had loved the bike, and trusted that Jake and I fixed it up properly. I was disappointed when my better judgement told me to put the bike away until I can get more practice, and until my leg fully heals.

Edward has checked in with me every day for the past week. Although we still frustrated each other, It seemed that hate for me had disappeared completely. He was kind, and every day he would ask me how I slept, and every day I would give him an uneasy shrug, and repress the nightmare from the night before.

Even when I was with Alice at the Cullens place after school, Edward liked to find an excuse to mill around us. When Alice and I were in the kitchen talking Edward would come in for water, which for some reason seemed to entertain Alice. When we would sit in the living room working on homework Edward would be in a corner pretending to read. He was always quiet, but I could feel him watching me whenever I looked away. The attention he was giving me was new, but I enjoyed it.

I found myself drawn closer and closer to Edward as the days passed. Now that the two of us were no longer stubbornly trying to get under each other's skin, our friendship had quickly clicked into place.

"You look... tired." Mike frowned, bringing me back from my train of thought. I had been staring mindlessly out the window with my head in my hands, trying to stay awake. It was October first, and the leaves were starting to fall right on schedule.

"Thanks, I'll go grab a coffee." I muttered. I knew Mike was only trying to be friendly, but I couldn't hold back the sarcasm in my exhausted tone.

Despite the sarcasm, the idea of a coffee sounded nice. I straightened my back and tried to find the energy to stand up. I hadn't been sleeping well, and my nightmares were starting to get bad again. It seemed that every night I would wake up screaming bloody murder to Charlie shaking me, or I'd toss and turn in a cold sweat.

"You drink too much coffee and you're getting bags under your eyes," Jessica grabbed onto my arm to prevent me from leaving. "I'd be a bad friend if I let you drink anymore of it."

"Jess, I'm falling asleep." I complained. I had been drinking coffee religiously to try and keep on top of all my classes and homework. Jessica gave me a stubborn look, and I rolled my eyes.

"Fine." I glowered. My lack of sleep was starting to make me grumpy.

When Charlie found out that Jacob was back, he was ecstatic. His best friends son that just happened to be close in age to his daughter. The idea thrilled Charlie. I loved Jake, but I was disappointed when I found out that the alcohol in the truck wasn't just a one time thing. The more I exposed myself to the upsetting stench of liquor the more my brain would spiral into triggering memories. Jake and Billie had come around a couple of times to watch games on TV with Charlie since I'd gotten the bike.

I glanced over at the Cullens table to see Edward was watching me as usual, and talking to Alice. They were quite obviously talking about me, you could tell by the way Alice looked up at me occasionally, and the way she would smile and look away after getting caught. Usually she didn't do that, it was only Edward that would stare me down. I wanted to go over and join their conversation. It's probably much more interesting than Jessica blabbing to Mike.
