I paced the floor of the kitchen anxiously, my mind had created a whole new array of awful scenarios that could happen tonight. I was starting to convince myself that this all was just a cruel practical joke Edward had played on me to mess with me, and that he wasn't actually going to show up. It was only 6:58, so I knew that logically I had nothing to worry about. Edward would be here in two minutes, no practical joke or cruel prank involved. I trusted him, and begged my anxiety to calm down.

I watched the little clock on our microwave flicker a minute closer to seven, and I tried to take a deep breath. Edward would be here in one minute now.

I had never imagined myself going out on a date- it seemed impossible. I felt as if I was in a dream, or living an alternate reality. I, Bella Swan, was going on a real date with the boy I had been dreaming about. It felt too good to be true. It was also not just any date. I was not going to a boring movie first date like I had seen in so many romantic comedies- It was going to be a romantic dinner. We were going to be talking for the entire night.

What if I bore him? What if he says something too smart, and I can't keep up? What if it really is an awful prank, and he makes me feel like a fool in public? That would be much more humiliating than getting stood up at my own home.

I took another deep breath as the clock flickered again, attempting hopelessly to calm my anxieties.

7:00

Only seconds after the new hour had begun, there was a knock at the door. I didn't need to open it or peek out the window to know that it was Edward. He was here to pick me up, just like he had promised. Seven O'clock.

I swung open the front door, and there Edward was. He had changed into a new outfit, one that had Alice written all over it. I was briefly entertained by the idea of Alice trying to help Edward pick out a stylish and acceptable first date out fit. If I knew Alice, which I did, she would insist on helping him. If my inkling was right, then she did a marvellous job.

Edwards ginger brown hair was askew, and he wore a stunning black outfit. His jeans were different then the ones he often wore. The fabric hugged him comfortably, and it hadn't been worn in or frayed in any spots. They looked nearly brand new. His shirt was one I hadn't seen before either. It was a simple, well fitted black sweater with the sleeves pushed up. He had his usual accessory locked around his right wrist- a black cuff, with a shining metal crest. Each of the family members wore one of the mysterious crest in some form- Alice and Rosalie each had necklace's, the boys all wore matching cuffs like Edwards, and Carlisle and Esme each had a beautiful ring.

"You look beautiful, Bella, love." Edward complimented me in a gentle murmur, and his eyes respectfully roamed my outfit. My cheeks warmed at the sound of his new pet name for me, and my heart skipped a beat. "You've taken my breath away."

"And you mine." I said as I watched him take in my outfit, still star struck by how gorgeous he was. We gazed at each other, taking in the way we each had styled ourselves. His eyes lingered on my skirt, and my stomach churned with dread when he looked down to see the atrocious purple scar that ran down my calf. It was the one from my motorcycle accident only a couple of weeks ago.

Not hiding the scar seemed like a brilliant idea to me last night. It wasn't going anywhere, and I had to get used to it. Besides, i didn't want Edward to see the scar later on if we do end up having a more serious relationship, and I was worried he'd leave me for it. I had to be open, and honest. The skirt had always been one of my favourites, and I felt as if pants would look too casual. I wanted to dress up for Edward to show him that this date was important to me. Now I felt silly and self conscious.
