I woke up to Alice and Edward talking quietly across the room. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but by the way they were looking at me I knew it was about me.

"Bella!" Alice grinned as she hopped over to my side. Edward stayed a safe distance from me, his eyes fiercely burning into me once again. "Edward told me you fell and knocked yourself out. Are you alright?"

Hearing the situation from Alices made me cringe in embarrassment. I was such a clutz.

"Yeah." I nodded as I sat up. The pain killers had kicked in entirely and I felt fine. Better than fine, that extra hour of sleep was definitely something I needed. "Edward took good care of me."

I looked up at Edward, who was scowling at the ground. I could see that he was finally back in character, trying to scare everybody off.

"Oh yes, Edward told me." Alice looked more than enthusiastic, and I once again felt my cheeks heat up. Although I'd never admitted it out loud, Alice knew about my little crush on Edward. She'd never talk to me about it, but whenever Edward was around she'd often pressure him into making small tall with me, which he never did.

"I leave you guys to it...." Edward glowered. Looks like the old Edward's back. Moody, salty, bitter. Cold. With that Edward stalked off downstairs, and I frowned.

"Edward!" Alice called as she quickly ran over to the top of the stairs. "We're having a movie night! Feel free to join us later!"

I listened, waiting hopefully for Edward to give a response, but all I heard was the front door slamming shut. He was gone. What a complicated guy. Alice turned to me with a big smile across her face, and I knew I was going to get questioned.

"I missed our girl nights." Alice sighed. The two of us were sitting on her large double bed. Her room was gothic, and cooler than anyone's room I'd ever seen before. She sat, carefully painting her toenails with a shimmering black polish. It was her usual.

"I missed them too." I agreed as I looked through her large collection of polish. Alice and I had started having sleepovers, or what Alice liked to call 'Girl nights', last year only a couple of weeks after we met. Sleepovers were not something I'd never enjoyed with anybody, however Alice was different. I wasn't sure what it was about her, but she was very down to earth and it was nice to speak about more than just gossip. We had a real friendship, unlike the ones I had with Jessica Stanley and the other girls I ate lunch with.

"So, you and Edward are lab partners." Alice finally spoke in a sly voice. She was finally addressing the subject. I felt relived to finally be talking about this with Alice, but at the same time it was her brother. I hadn't mentioned the whole lab partner thing to Edward to her yet, which means that Edward must be talking to her about me.

I wonder what he thinks about me...

"Yeah." I nodded as I put the nail polish bag down. It was hopeless for me to look. All of Alice's colours were either too dark and edgy for my taste, or were far too bold for me to pull off.

"How is that going?" She asked innocently, a small smile creeping across her face. Although id never admitted it out loud before, I knew Alice knew about the crush I had on Edward. Over the past two weeks I'd tried hard to repress the way he made me feel, but it was with great difficulty.
