It's been seventeen years since Father's death. I met his former quartermaster, Adéwalé, in Haiti and he revealed to me the last known location of the Jackdaw.
Father's beloved ship from his days as a pirate.
Yes, Mother always scolded Father for telling me his days as a pirate but it fascinated me to no end. Every night, I would be begging for him to tell me more and more of his days.
I miss Father, and Mother, Haytham too. I even miss Jenny despite our constant bickering and fights. Here I am now, living the life Father once lived. Out on the seas, sailing the Jackdaw as its captain.
I wonder if he would be proud if he saw me now. To see his youngest control the ship he once captained as his own.
Adéwalé accompanied me on my quest to find the Jackdaw. He stayed as my quartermaster for a few months until he had to return to Great Inagua to the assassins. During the few months, he helped me find a replacement.
James Stockholm, my new quartermaster. Together, he and I scrounged up the remaining spots in the crew. Together, we sail the seven seas.
In truth, I don't know what I want with my life anymore. After Father's passing, all I wanted was to find out who had sent the mercenaries to kill him.
Now that I have the Jackdaw in my hands, I can't bear to leave it. Perhaps Adéwalé was right. Perhaps I should join the assassins. I have Eagle Vision like Father, I can be trained.
That is if I wish to. As I mentioned before, I don't know what I want anymore. Perhaps I will live the rest of my days out in the seas, just living like a sailor Father once was.
I stopped writing in my journal when I heard knocking on the cabin door.
"Come in."
James entered the cabin.
"We've reached the colonies, Captain. Shall we dock into port and restock up?"
I closed the journal and tucked it inside of my overcoat.
"Yes, we should do that," I said, standing up from my seat. "What do we need?"
As James and I walked through the streets of New York, James listed off what we needed.
Entering a shop, the shopkeeper listened to our order and rushed off to load what we needed.
The door swung open and three people entered.
"We best hurry and catch up with them if we want to stop them, Master Kenway." My back stiffened and I looked to their direction.
Three men, all well built. One was Irish, the other two have yet to speak. But wait. The Irishman said "Master Kenway". Could it be....?
Activating Eagle Vision, the man with the navy blue overcoat appeared in gold. My heart stopped beating and I stared at him in shock; even after Eagle Vision was turned off.
"James, load up the Jackdaw," I quietly said to my quartermaster. "I'll be back soon." James frowned but nodded anyways.
The shopkeeper quickly tended to the Irishman, and his companions', needs. Once they left, I followed.
"We've got a stalker," Shay muttered. "Been following us since we left the shop."
Haytham glanced back at the figure then back up ahead.
"Go on ahead. I'll lose her." Shay and Gist shared a look before doing as Haytham said.
Once both gentlemen were out of sight, Haytham turned on his heels then stopped. Laying on the ground is a journal and he picked it up.
Opening it, there was only one word.
Why?
Why. Can't. I. Write. ANYTHING FOR EDWARD?!? AHSAJAKXHAHE.
