[AUTHOR'S NOTE]

Hey, what's up guys? Pretty weird for me having an author's note before the chapter starts but I wanted to let you guys know that this chapter is optional to be read. This chapter is just about the siblings when they were younger as well as Hiroki. It is just to know how these characters were before and how they've changed, I guess. Well, some characters. Anyways, some of you said you wanted to read about them when they were young while some preferred not to, so if you don't want to, you don't have to. It's completely fine, you won't be missing out on anything really. Just go on to the next chapter. But to those of you who want to read this chapter, enjoy!

10 Ten Years Ago

'Nii-san, are you going on a mission?' I asked, watching him put on his ninja sandals.

He looked at me and smiled. Raising his hand to pat my head, nodding.

'You're always busy on missions. You don't even have time to spend with us anymore.' said a voice from behind us

Nii-san and I turned around to see Masoto, standing at the doorway with his arms folded. His eyebrows twitched in annoyance.

Nii-san smiled guiltily and stood up, motioning Masoto to come over.

He smirked playfully and ran towards us, only to get his hair ruffled by Nii-san.

'Sorry,' Nii-san apologized, bending down to our eye-level. 'I'll send you two to the play ground to play with Hiroki later, how's that?'

'Can't we go on a mission with you?' Masoto asked, pouting slightly. I smiled at his behavior, finding it both amusing and adorable.

'It's too dangerous, Masoto.' Nii-san said. 'When you're older -'

'But I can handle weapons really well!' Masoto boasted. He pulled out a kunai from his trouser pockets and showed us the gleaming, sharp blade.

Nii-san and my eyes widened.

'Masoto, where did you get that?' I asked, blinking.

'Nii-san's room.' Masoto said proudly like he was pleased with himself to have managed to take something from Nii-san in secret. 'He's got loads of these!'

'You shouldn't be playing around with that.' Nii-san scolded, trying to take the kunai.

The younger boy refused to hand over and instead, smirked. 'I can use this really well! See -'

He began slashing invisible enemies like a maniac, his eyes gleaming with playfulness.

Nii-san tried grabbing the kunai. 'Masoto, stop that! You're going to hurt -'

I let out a cry. Looking at my left arm, just below my shoulder, my sleeve was slightly torn. I could see a big slash across my arm, red like magic.

Silence.

My eyes began to water.

'No, no, no ...' Masoto muttered, dropping the kunai and taking a step towards me. 'Makoto, I didn't mean to -'

I sniffed twice and then, I began crying. When your six and you get hurt, there's not much you can do but cry.

Nii-san picked the kunai off the floor and kept it in his weapon pouch, his face slightly pale.

He extended his arm towards me. 'Makoto, let me see that -'

I recoiled from him, pressing my palm against the new cut. I winced before yelping in pain.

'Nii-san, what do I do?' Masoto cried, pulling his spiky hair and looking frantic. 'Otousan and Okaasan are out! What are we going to tell them?'

In a flash, Nii-san scooped me up in his arms and ran up the stairs, signaling Masoto to follow.

He carried me to his room and gently placed me on his bed. He quickly went over to his desk and opened the bottom drawer, pulling out all sorts of things that I had no idea what they were except that they were bottles filled with green liquid.

Masoto sat down next to me, guilt written all over his face as he twiddled his thumbs. From time to time, glancing at my cut.

Finally, Nii-san came over and began applying the green liquid on the cut, making me hiss in pain. Masoto flinched beside me, his eyes flickering over to my pained expression.

After I had fully calmed down, Nii-san had put away the medical supplies and was going to leave for his mission.

'Feeling better?' he asked me, kneeling down and ruffling my hair. His eyes searching my face like I was trying to hide the that I was feeling pain.

Instead, I nodded.

'Be careful, alright?' he said, patting my head as well as Masoto's before narrowing his eyes over to my twin. 'And you,' he said, suppressing a smile. 'No more monkey business.'

He flicked Masoto's forehead.

'Ow!' he flinched, rubbing his forehead which had a slightly pink tone to it now.

I looked at my brothers and smiled. No matter how much Otousan and Okaasan upset me, I have my brothers. I don't care about anyone else but my brothers. They'll never leave my side. I love them so much.

The red ball landed in my hands and I let out a tiny giggle before tossing it. 'Hiroki, catch!'

His large dark brown eyes widened, leaving him looking even more innocent that he normally did. Brushing his straight light brown hair out of his eyes, he held out his scrawny arms before wrapping them around the ball, grinning. His grin was quickly replaced by a grimace and he dropped the ball. It began rolling away from us.

Masoto hurried over to his side with an extremely worried look. 'Hey, are you alright?'

'I'm fine, don't worry.' he said, but I couldn't help noticing that he winced after every word. His eyes flickered over to me before they met Masoto's. They looked like they were communicating mentally. I raised an eyebrow.

'Makoto, could you get the ball?' Masoto asked, putting Hiroki's arm over his shoulders.

I blinked. 'Yeah, but is Hiroki alright?'

'He's fine.' Masoto replied, sounding strained. He looked away from me.

I gave a worried glance over at my friend before going after the ball.

The ball continued rolling until it came into contact with a pair of legs. I slowly looked up and my eyes met a pair of onyx ones.

I grabbed the ball before looking up at the boy. He looked about my age and looked just a little taller than me. I noticed an older boy standing next to him. With the same onyx eyes as the younger boy and the same raven hair, they looked similar. I guessed they were brothers.

I grinned, turning to the younger boy. 'Hey, wanna play?'

His answer was not what I expected. He turned away from me arrogantly. 'Hmph. I have no time for childish games unlike you -'

I tossed the ball at his face.

It wasn't exactly a hard toss but it did shock him. I caught the ball again and frowned.

'You're mean,' I said simply.

A soft chuckle came from the older boy. He spoke in a low, mature voice. 'Sorry for my brother's behaviour. Sasuke,' he said, putting a hand on the younger boy's shoulder. 'Be nice.'

'Be nice?' the young boy spluttered. 'She threw a ball at my face!'

'You asked for it!' I growled. 'Idiot boy ...'

'What did you call me?'

'Sasuke ...' the older boy trailed off, looking down at the two of us and he looked like he was trying to suppress a laugh.

I stuck out my tongue at the younger boy before turning around and stomping back to where Masoto and Hiroko were.
