Lip, Mandy, Ian and I walk side by side down the street. Mandy had her arms swung around mine and Ian's shoulders as she walked in between us. "Gotta love these half days," Ian smiled.Mandy giggled, "Good thing public education it broke." I nodded in agreement, inhaling the cold air," Yeah, waste of time!" I scoffed. "The only thing those people are equipped to teach is how to live with disappointment," Lip chimed in as we crossed the street to turn down another as we headed home.
Mandy turned her head to Ian, "Hey, wanna catch a movie later?" she asked. "Uh..." Ian looked down. "Brandy can sneak us in," she pushed. Ian shrugged, "Working."
"You're boring," she turned to me, "Aly? Can you?"
I let out a breathy laugh, "If he's working where do you think I'll be." Mandy huffed, "I swear you guys are always at work."

As we continued walking, we passed a truck parked by the side of the road. "Hey!" We turned and watched a middle-aged man walk towards us, must be the owner of the truck.
"Hey, yeah I'm talking to you," he stopped in front of us and I placed a hand on my hip. "You got a phone?" he asked. Lip sniffed, "What your truck break down?"
"No, genius. I like standing in a shitty neighbourhood with my dick in my hands. Look I'm already two hours late on this load. I try to take one shortcut, this is what I get. My goddamn kid drained my phone playing doodle jump. My goddamn wife took my charger. Listen, I'll give you 5 bucks if you let me use your phone. Just one call."
I stepped forward with an idea, "Oh, we uh don't have a phone," I said with a sad smile, "Our dad says not till we're 18..." The truck driver sighed.
"Um but you know what?" I pointed to the street behind us, "There's a bar, I think...about 10 blocks that way. What's it called?" I look at the others who were playing along and nodding, "Uh, O'Flaherty's. Yeah, tell them your family's from County Cork."
He scoffed, "Ten blocks?" he rubbed his temple. "Maybe five. Straight shot," Ian shrugged. The truck driver pulled a five-dollar bill out of his pocket and waved it in front of our eyes, "This is yours if you keep an eye on the truck."
"Five bucks!" I widened my eyes as Ian slung his arm around my shoulder, "Oh cool. Thanks, mister!"
The truck driver walked past us and headed in the direction I had pointed to, "Hey! Make sure no one gets near it!" He called back, we turned and watched him leave. "Yes, sir!"
"Hey, when did you become such a pathological liar?" Lip asked when the man was out of sight. The corners of my mouth tugged up, "Just comes naturally," I shrugged.
