Meditation

Something I have been doing through this whole quarantine period is meditation. Every single night, before going to bed, I put on a meditation exercise.

I discovered meditation through my dad
somewhere in September, when I just started university. The first weeks were super hard for me, so I needed something to help me relax before bed.

Since then I started doing it from time to time but usually couldn't last longer than a few days.

But in the last month or so I have done almost 4 hours of meditation, which I am actually really proud of.

What people need to realize is that meditation is not something that will help absolutely everyone to deal with anxiety, depression, any other mental illness, or just to relax overall.  Some find it really hard to concentrate or they don't see any benefits from it. Everyone is different and that's absolutely okay.

I personally just see a huge difference in how I act when I feel myself starting to have a panic attack or when I just feel uneasy or anxious. Right away I start to take super deep breaths and usually put my hand on my chest. It's something that happens automatically already. And overall, I have been paying more attention to how I breathe and how my body feels in certain situations and I think that's pretty cool.

Also, can't not mention Shawn here, because he was also one of the first people I started getting knowledge about meditation from. I love how he openly talks about it, never tries to make it seem like he is perfect and flawless and that he also struggles and that's okay. Absolutely adore him for that💛

Although, I am no professional, I do want to mention a few things I recommend doing before starting mediation:

1) Don't get upset if it doesn't feel like something life changing on the first try. Try more, try different ones, maybe you'll find the one you like or if you don't, that's okay, too.

2) Use guided meditation. If you have never done it before, it might feel weird or you won't know what to do, so using an app where a person will help you every step of the way can be very useful. The app I have been using the most lately is Balance (it actually has a free year subscription right now and it's really so amazing, so I really recommend it). Headspace is also absolutely wonderful and I love the meditations there. Calm is also nice, I have only maybe used it once but from the looks of it, it can also be great. There are many different programs and exercises.

I think that's it for now, but maybe I'll come up with like ideas in the future.

Hope you are all staying safe and healthy!

Love you guys💞
